One of the worst experience I ever had in Korea. I can see how some may think "just another American behaving rudely when traveling abroad" so I will just list the facts. TL;DR Shilla employees went out of their way to make it difficult for me to spend money.
Staying at the Shilla Seoul with my family, including 1 year old daughter. Elevator was not available so I had to fold the stroller and take the escalator. Attempted to make a purchase on the second floor, but was encouraged to go make a membership card on the first floor. Asked if I can leave the stroller because their elevator is not available, was told no. Had to go back outside, around the back of the building to get to the membership sign up area No customer were being assisted, while reading the signs to see if I need to take a ticket, someone walked in after us and went straight to the counter for assistance. Following immediately behind, was told at the counter that I needed to take a ticket and the people who lined up behind me would be assisted first. Went back outside to go around the building and folded the stroller again to go to the second floor. Began to make my purchase, providing passport and flight information. Cashier indicated an error in the system, provided the information again. Provide credit card to make a payment, was refused because we created the membership under my wife's name and she left her wallet at the hotel.
Rules are rules, but if your employees do not understand the purpose of the rules and go out of the way to make things more difficult for your customers, what are you even in...
Read moreWas looking for a specific watch at the gucci shop. A guy called me saying it was available at the shop but also said if I wanted to buy it, I had to go there within 3 days because they would be moving that watch to some outlet then. It sounded weird as heck, so when I arrived at the shop, I even asked the workers there if that was true. Turns out it was a complete LIE and they never heard about anything regarding moving inventory. I asked if they who talked to me on the phone, the guy said he did, but wouldn't show me in the shop who it was. I suspect it was the same guy talking to me, but wouldn't admit it.
I can't believe how shady this Gucci store was about lying about their inventory moving. Didn't buy anything there because my flight back home was too late for duty free shopping. But, I'm definitely not going to buy anything from this shop if they are willing to lie to customers about...
Read moreThe Shilla Duty Free Store is one of the most popular duty free shops along with Shinsegae in Myeongdong. There are other duty free shops but the choice here is very wide as it offers a large commercial mall on three floors plus the basement. It can be very crowded and you have to be sometimes patient. The brands representatives are on-site and you shouldn't hesitate to ask for a reasonable discount such as 10% for example. Last, on your way back, there is a long queue for taxi and you have better to pick up a taxi on the main...
