Not sure how this place has such a high rating. I had a terrible experience here.
Unprofessional and not friendly. Maybe I was unlucky and got a terrible person but the older lady was very pushy and kept rushing me by kept offering me unmatching items like light blue top with a bright pink dress. Also, they help you wear the hanbok but I wish they would just tell you how or show you because I was touched in places I didn't want to be touched and felt very very uncomfortable. Also, the employees are not in sync so kept getting mixed messages and different information that got me frustrated.
Reservation not found. We made reservations for the photoshoot months ago and paid the down-payment and we were not on the list and got rushed treatment for photoshoot. I showed her the confirmation screenshot but kept asking us. Also we had to cab a 20 minute distance for a photoshoot and was told we need to be there in 10 minutes. Instructions were not clear and just a mess. Thankfully the photographer was nice and understanding.
Limited options. They did not have the colors I wanted and I paid $250 for a photoshoot. You would think they would reserve items for you but nope. Also, if you wear a large or larger in the states they do not have your size.
Small store and not organized. The store is small and should not fit more than 3 people at a time but was packed, more than 20 people and I felt cramped the entire time and kept bumping into customers and employees. Their changing room is just a curtain between mountain of boxes and clothing. No privacy whatsoever. Also, the clothing were not clean as I saw stains and they would just throw items worn back into a pile of clean items.
Lockers are not secure. They use a master key - same key for all the lockers and the key is just floating around and easy grabs.
This place was basically a tourist rip off place with terrible service, very poor environment and...
Read moreMore expensive than other hanbok rentals but def more authentic prettier hanboks here! I didn't realize that we had to have a reservation since I discovered this place through Instagram. Also not possible for most people to make a reservation through Naver since you need to have a Korean number. Possibly the next best solution is to have the hotel you are staying at help you call to make a reservation.
If none of that works for you they do take walk ins but depending on how busy they are that day it may take a while. I think my sister and I waited around 30-40 minutes. They do everything from hanbok to socks and shoes to getting your hair done everything here is great! The rental was 45,000 won each for 4 hours. I was also a little worried about sizing but here they have a variety of sizes and lengths but not every color and design is available in every size and length. That being said the hanoks here are so pretty I'm sure you will find something here. I'm estimating that the hanboks here range from XS- XL.
There are layers to the hanbok dresses so be warned you may be a little warm. You wear a ruffled petticoat underneath as well as thin loose pants. Then depending on the style you choose 1 or 2 layers of the actual dress and then the little jacket top. After you are dressed they style your hair for you. Either can do a simple braid with pretty hair pins or a more sophisticated bun with more accessories. Obviously this is optional if you want to leave your hair as is that's fine.
Overall a great experience and the ladies here are very quick and kind. English is not perfect but good enough to communicate. They also have lockers here big enough for your personal items but not big enough if you have shopping...
Read moreIf you’re gonna wear a hanbok- get a good one! I feel like Studio KJD offers good quality hanboks in the sea of many cheaper produced hanbok shops.
Booking process- I booked for four people on their website, got a confirmation email, but on the day of the booking- we came late but they still accommodated us. There was a slight language barrier, but nothing impossible.
Hanboks - I personally feel like the hanboks are pretty average. Nothing glittery or crazy (and no costumes- so no king outfit or prince outfits!). The best thing abt renting from this studio was the skirt part. While many others were wearing hoop skirts, we got a proper under skirt that made the dress look much more full!
Additional - I also booked this place (despite it being a tad bit pricier) because there was no scammy “add-ons.” We were provided shoes (which are kinda worn out), hair styling, a norigae, and even a purse to hold our items. All of which are typical additional charges at Hanbok shops - but not at this one.
Location - Its a walking distance from the Gyeongbokgung palace. Very manageable. :) There was also a photobooth shop nearby so we got to take photobooth pics on our hanboks. :)
My only complaint is that my skirt had a few rips at the bottom, the shoes were worn out, and the hats for the men were...
