국립현대미술관 운영 업무하시는 분들이 일하는 곳인데, 주말에 종종 갈 일이 생기곤 한다. 박물관과 마찬가지로, 근무여건이나 처우는 좋지 않은 것으로 알고 있고, 공무원이나 다름 없기에 열정을 가지고 공공서비스를 위해 봉사하시는 분들이 많다. 박물관, 미술관 등의 영리사업 그리고 작가들의 영리활동 또한 예술의 주된 활동으로 인정되어야 하는 시대가 됐다. 그래야, 제대로 더 그 가치활동들이 국가사회 기여하고 더 많은 시민들이 예술을 생활의 일부로 받아 들이게 될 것이다. 현재의 운영정책이나 중앙정부의 예산 통제 방식으로는 시민들과 예술의 거리감은 더욱 더 커질 수 밖에 없다. 당장 미술관이나 박물관의 브랜딩이나 상품성을 국제적으로 발전시키려는 노력이 부족해졌고, 그러니 상품들의 종류가 너무 적고 품질도 검증이 덜 됐다 우리 만의 예술이랄 게 없는 한국이다. 중국 아니면 일본 또는 미국의 강한 영향권 안에서 자생적으로 독창성 있는 문화가 싹트는 걸 자체 검열하는 역사를 지금도 써내혀가고 있다. 다국어 지원을 통해 미술관 온라인 스토어도 활성화되면 그게 국위선양이자 국익을 위한 박물관의 대외 정책효과로 자연스럽게 이어지게 된다. 후기 조선식 유학 대신 한국학으로 대체시켜야 할 시대적 책임도 현재 문화예술 리더들에게 있다. 한국학이 제대로 체계화 안된 건, 폐쇄적으로 괴이하게 성장한 한국정신문화연구원 같은 기관들 탓이 크다. 이런 기관들을 이제 통폐합시키고, 새로운 한국학과 동아시아학을 미래지향적이고 예술적으로 또 현실적으로 실물경제에 기여하도록 재편하려는 강한 드라이브가 필요한 때다. 상업성은 예술의 주된 채널링이 될 수 있고, 누구나 상업 없이는 먹고 살 수가 없는데 예술계에만 순수함을 강조하는 이들은 대체 어느 시대에 살고 있고 그들만을 위한 예술을 추구하려는 건지, 시대와 괴리된 대책없는...
