Paldalmun Gate This is the south gate of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, ‘Paldalmun Gate.’ The name of the gate, Paldal, has a funny meaning, meaning “roads open in all directions.” Paldalmun Gate was built with a semicircular rampart on the outside to protect Hwaseong Fortress from enemies, and a device was also built to pour hot water on enemies climbing the walls. When Hwaseong Fortress was built, there was a system called ‘real-name construction system’ where the names of the people involved in the construction were engraved on the building so that the people building the building could work with pride. 이곳은 수원화성의 남문, ‘팔달문’이에요. 문의 명칭인 팔달은 "사방팔방으로 길이 열린다"는 재밌는 뜻을 지니고 있지요. 팔달문은 적으로부터 화성을 튼튼하게 지키기 위해 바깥쪽에 반원 모양의 옹성을 세워두고, 성벽을 기어오르는 적에게 뜨거운 물을 부을 수 있는 장치도 만들어 두었습니다.
