The Tibidabo Funicular, known as the Cuca de Llum (Catalan for “Glowworm”), is a historic and essential part of the Tibidabo experience. It serves as both a practical and enchanting way to ascend to Barcelona’s iconic amusement park and the Sacred Heart Basilica at the summit of Tibidabo Mountain. Originally opened in 1901, it was one of the first funiculars in Spain, and its recent modernization has transformed it into a blend of history and innovation.
The ride begins at the base station, where passengers board spacious and modern cabins designed to maximize views. As the funicular climbs the steep slope, passengers are treated to panoramic vistas of Barcelona, stretching from the bustling city streets to the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. This gradual elevation creates a sense of excitement and anticipation, making the journey to Tibidabo as memorable as the destination itself.

Ordering tickets was easy enough but man it's pricey for a short train trip up.
I was told it takes 10 minutes up and 10 minutes down but it was def more like 5 minutes each way.
When you get to the top the views and attractions are worth it I guess...
The train was packed when it came down... but got on and found a seat.
They have a really weird system where some doors only open from one side of the train.... so if some carriages are full you have to run all the way up the steps and around the other side to get in.
They have a loo but they don't make it too clear when the train will leave so we didn't want to risk missing the train.
On the way back down it was even more packed and had to run around each side trying to find carriage with space with a door accessible from that side.
We had a problem where when it stopped at the bottom station the doors did not open on our carriage... we pressed all the buttons and nothing. With time passing and all the other carriages emptied we had no choice but to carefully climb over the high seat over into the next carriage and jump down. We were also in a hurry to catch a bus so had no choice... this was very bad service... we could have been...

However, didn't receive a QR code which made it difficult at the funicular - the man downstairs looked at my email and was happy and helped us get through the gates without a ticket, but it was a problem at the other end where again, we had the same issue. This should be easy to fix for the companies involved.
Also on the funicular, you have no idea when it's going to depart or not. We had to wait almost 15 minutes for the return car to leave, and had no idea if it had stopped working or what.
Finally, here on Google it says 1015 entry, but there was a sign at the gate saying first journey 11. They began to let people enter at 1055 and first journey was about 10 past 11. Correct times should be provided here on Google as there were a lot of people waiting around from 1030 onwards and...
