Excellent experience, gorgeous views of the city from a tall tower, that overlooks a lot of cool monuments, like the Mezquita and the Puente Romano. Despite having bought tickets ahead of time, there was still a 20+ minute wait to enter, and two more lines inside, that lasted 30 mins and another 15, just to go up on the tower. The stairs are very narrow and there is little space, so you have to wait for one group to descend before going up, and then wait to be able to go down yourself, as there’s only one way up and down. Expect to spend multiple hours here if you want to experience everything. However, since I was in no rush, I had absolutely no problem, and enjoyed my visit tremendously, and would definitely recommend it despite the long lines. The gardens outside require no wait time and are beautiful, though I imagine they are even more gorgeous during a cooler part of the year, August isn’t exactly the greenest month here in Córdoba as a lot of things dry out. Nevertheless, there were hundreds of beautiful flowers, and the view of the city from up-top was a definite highlight. Recommend you come visit!

Beautiful town of mixed archiecture and during the months of May and June, as you stroll around the old streets of Cordoba, you'll notice small gatherings of people standing outside terraced houses. If you join one of the queues, you'll get access to some beautifully designed tiny patios that are display to public. We were only here for one day so it's on our 'return to' list as we found some fabulous looking restaurants that we would like to check out. There's even a Michelin star restaurant on Calle Compositor Serrano Lucena that looks worth the visit. On the other hand, we ate at the local Spanish area, an outdoor courtyard of 3 or 4 cafe/restaurant. Not an english speaking person in sight, we ate with the locals. Lunch for 2 people was 12 Euro, it consisted of 4 beers and 3 tapas. They also gave every person in entire restaurant another free tapas. When we return it'll be to stay a few nights. This town has so much to offer.

We visited on a very hot day at the end of a 4 hour walking tour of the Cathedral Mosque, Jewish Quarter and Alcazar. We were pretty tired when we reached the Alcazar but the place really perked us up. At first you enter the old chapel where there are a number of Roman mosaics that have been relocated from elsewhere in Cordoba. The mosaics are incredible and worth studying. Then you get to see where some of the Spanish Inquisition took place. Then the tour takes you into the formal Muslim garden, which is lovely. Then you're out into the formal Alcazar Gardens which are incredible. We wandered them for 90 minutes on the hottest of days. Lots of photo opportunities. You can also climb the towers and walk the walls. Our tour didn't allow time for this, and on a busy day we didn't want to fight our way back through the people on the one way walking route! Highly recommend.

It was nice but an underwhelming experience. The indoors bit is largely rebuilt with a collection of some artefacts found elsewhere. The gardens were not in full bloom when we were there. However, the flowers that we did see were quite unimpressive and I would even classify some of them as weeds, many have grown outside the gardens between the garden curb and the alleys. Only the flowers around the main fountain were nicer. The cleaners were browsing their phones and listening to loud music in the gardens. The ticket buying experience was not as horrifying as expected, no need to prebook a slot anymore, but they only take cards and you cannot book online. The opening hours are also disappointing, not open every day and close mid-afternoon.

Medieval Palace in the historic centre of Cordoba, next to the Mosque-Cathedral. Building of military character, sober in its exterior and of luxurious interior, was built on the 14th century on previous constructions, after the Christian forces reconquered Cordoba. Also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has a very rich history, even used by the Catholic Monarchs Isabella and Ferdinand, worth taking the time to read about it: from its use by the Spanish Inquisition and Boabdil kept prisoner, to garrison for Napoleon troops. The gardens, grand and impressive, are structured on 3 levels: higher, middle and lower, with avenues bordered by trees, water features and statues. Utterly beautiful and a must see if you're in the area.

The gardens and views are 4-5 stars, (though the interior would be 2 stars) - which is what focusing on. Do buy tickets in advance if going, we bypassed 40 people in line at 10:35 because we did and it had grown significantly by the time we exited about 40-50 minutes later. Inside is pretty minimal and no real signs so you would need to use a guide (personal or electronic). If willing to take the many steps up to the tower you’ll be rewarded with great views of the city. After leaving the alcazar you will go through the gardens which are quite beautiful, and includes a few shady spots with seats (nice for a quick rest). Toilets are near the exit through the garden, which were functional and mostly clean.
