DON’T forget To look UP!
I was never a follower of surrealism but my family and I appreciate the details and enjoy general discussions.
Of all the museums I’ve visited whilst traveling, this is definitely one of the TOP.
Even without a guide, the entire experience is visually stimulating. Knowing that the artist designed it all, adds an extra feeling of allure. Moods change as you walked through the themed rooms & interactive displays, such as the magnifying glass over the Mae West room (pictured). Behind West’s eyes, a peephole reveals a hidden “paradise.”
Museum attendants remain unseen but available for assistance. There are chairs placed around to take a break from standing. I’m not sure if many people notice that Dalí’s burial tomb is underneath the stage below the cupola.
Later I read that Dalí intended for the museum feel like a “theatrical dream.”
And I can say, he succeeded at just that.
Fun fact: the symbolic dome is designed after a fly’s eye because it sees many different realities.
Dislikes: We didn’t like the order of the museum. It didn’t really make sense so we went off order a few times.
Favorite piece: “Palace of the Wind” It’s unbelievably majestic with such a beautiful story behind it. The piece is actually 5 canvases melded together, meant to represent the life and work of Dalí and his love Gala.
When did we visit: Saturday in Early September, 2023 15:50- 17:30 (2 hours visit)
Buying tickets.: We didn’t buy tickets in advance. We had no issues buying them on the spot (22€ each) and we were able to enter right away in the next group (the line is controlled by a visitor cap). I think visiting later in the day is the second best to being the first visitors.
Parking: We parked in the public lot next door for about 10...

This is not just a museum; it’s a surreal journey into the mind of one of the greatest artists of all time. My family and I were all deeply impressed by the creativity, imagination, and genius that this place embodies.
The design and layout of the museum are unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Every corner is filled with surprises, from intricate details to grand, mind-bending installations. It’s not a traditional museum; it’s a living, breathing piece of art where every exhibit tells a story and evokes strong emotions. Walking through the museum felt like stepping into Dalí’s dreamscape—surreal, captivating, and thought-provoking.
The artworks on display are incredible, showcasing not only Dalí’s masterpieces but also his eccentric vision of art and life. The attention to detail and the depth of his work left us speechless. Even the building itself is a work of art, with its quirky design and symbolic elements that reflect Dalí’s unique style.
What made the experience even more special was how engaging it was for all of us—adults and children alike. My family couldn’t stop talking about the creativity and imagination on display. It’s a place that leaves a lasting impression and sparks conversations long after you leave.
The Dalí Theatre-Museum is an absolute must-visit for anyone traveling to the area. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or just curious about exploring something extraordinary, this place will transport you to a world of wonder and inspiration. Truly...
Read moreWell, what else can be said about this sublime museum? Dali designed and set it all up and you can tell as much upon entering and the ensuing adventure within.
I visited in May 2016 when the weather was beautiful. The train from Barcelona doesn’t take too long and is cheap enough. The train I got took around 2 hours and cost around 20 Euro’s return. The museum ticket was 14 Euro’s but this may have changed.
The crowds were spread out so things didn’t get too claustrophobic and you can go off in pretty much any direction you wish. It’s definitely not your conventional journey inside a museum.
My visit was made more fun after meeting a recently divorced American lady who sold everything up and decided to back pack around Europe. She has been a Dali fan since high school and this was one of her major stops along her travels. It was quite exciting to see someone from the other side of the world enjoying the museum like a child enjoys Christmas morning.
The shop was nice but could have had a little more on offer. I did pick up a lovely poster for the collection but there wasn’t a lot on offer which was a shame.
There are few museums around Europe that offer an experience of this kind. Now we are getting back to more regular travel, I would suggest you make The Dali Museum a...
