Federico García Lorca — Attraction in Granada

Oh my gosh! This place was like breathing some loveliness of green and very alive space amongst the deserted burning streets of Granada. It felt like I have found my refuge, truly, after baking and melting in the sun I am not used to as much, for past few days. So much greenery that I was astonished by it and curious how it is maintained over this challenging hot summer period. It's almost magical to keep this to such a standard on a daily basis and it takes lots of sweat and blood of people and lots of water, so I have truly appreciated it! It was so good to habe found a place where I could walk barefoot, to watch ducks in a pond and see lotus flowers and to lie in a green green grass next to the tree. As a very welcomed bonus, there was a local school of kids sketching around the pond when I was taking my sketchbook out, too, so really Ive had a beautiful morning. While it ticks all the boxes for what a park ought to have it also leaves a lot to be desired in terms of quality. The trees and plants are lovely to look at and the lawns are somewhat manicured however the main walkways aren't paved so they turn into veritable mud tracks at the slightest rain, of the 4 or 5 gates rarely can 2 of them be found opened, the drinking fountains often don't work nor are they adapted for people with disabilities nor dogs, the children's area is outdated and lacks variation while the dog area is ill-equipped and embarrassingly small and rundown. It is a public park in the city of Granada , Spain , built to honour Granadan poet Federico García Lorca . With an area of 71,500 square metres, it is a contemporary design park that surrounds the former summer home of the poet's family. Constructed in 1984. Huge park and the green space is made up of several sunny avenues, including the Alameda promenade, which reduces the acoustic and visual impact of the nearby highway.
