Bodegas La Rioja Alta, S.A. — Attraction in Haro

Every year for the last 13 years I buy or drink a case or more of the Rioja Alta Vina Ardanza. I was highly anticipating before this visit but it left me very disappointed.

While wine is good, hospitality is mediocre. Yes we are late for 15 mins for the 2 hours tour and we are sorry for that. But only one tour a day at 10:15am it is not customers friendly. There's no nice hotel nearby so we stayed in Bilbao. Traveling with a kid and some unexpected traffic incident took us more than an hour to get here.

Anyway yes we are late. We paid $100 euro for the tour but we are not allowed to join, no refund, no credit toward wine purchase. We are left alone sitting at the corner to taste 4 wines with a leaflet. No explanation, no snack, no one come to talk to us ever again. I don't even know the vintage of the wines. This is the worst tasting experience I have had.

I have Ardanza for years so I am familiar with its taste profile. 2016 is more balanced and refined than 2015 but less typical Ardanza. But anyway I travel all the way here for the tour and any retailer in America carries their wines. The bright spot was the 1997 vintage 904 Riserva. Leather and herbaceous notes on the nose, robust acidity that needs food that the tasting didn't serve. On the way out I heard the tour group meeting in another room, but we were not allowed to join.

My remaining two cases of Ardanza will remind me the poor experience I had today. Going to order Bosconia or Tondonia next year and not...

There is a reception and shopping section in an authentic and historical building and a wine bar and sales section in the opposite building "El Garage Del Club De Cosecheros", garden was attentive and enjoyable. We had "Discovering La Rioja Alta Tour". Our guide was diligent and knowledgeable, but he seemed a little nervous at the beginning. After a nice tour, before starting the tasting, my request for water was met with surprise, she took care of it. But she couldn't find it. All the wines except Gran Reserva 904 1997 were of decent quality. The age of this wine deserves respect, but the fruit had abandoned it years ago. Vina Alberdi was very fruity and had good balance, Vina Ardanza and Vina Arana were perfect examples of Rioja. As I couldn't understand 904 and would like to meet with 890 we passed to wine bar building. Gran reserva 904 2015 was amazing and has great capacity for aging. Les voy a contar mi experiencia como un enamorado de la marca La Rioja Alta. Sin embargo mucha calma...

Llevo muchos años bebiendo vinos de La Rioja Alta y nunca había visitado la bodega y por fin me llegó este día. Desafortunadamente, no pude tener la experiencia nota 10 en el contexto general que había esperado y que siempre había soñado.

En cuanto al servicio, aqui está el punto que me molestó. En marketing decimos que controlar las expectativas es una de las pautas más importantes y creo que en este caso yo no controlé las mías como debía. Lo que sucedió es que al llegamos, (por la mañana) había una única persona atendiendo y que se notaba tenia algún problema relacionado a su labor o con su personal... luego no nos transmitió nada de simpatia o amabilidad ya que éramos, hasta entonces, los unicos clientes. Luego llegaran otras atendientes (uniformadas) y ligeramente menos "estrésadas" y en que cuando se les pedia algo, no demostraban ningúna cercania o prestatividad. Simplesmente atendían a nuestra demanda de manera muy formal. Es decir, lo mínimo que se espera es una atención cordial, ligera, etc... Y en ningún momento, ninguno de nosotros que éramos 4 percibimos una buena atención que se esperaba de La Rioja Alta. En fin, entiendo que por ser una marca fuerte y un producto de calidad, que se vende solo, quizás el servicio que tuve no fue el que imaginé.

En cuanto a los productos, son algunos de los mejores vinos de España. Desde el Viña Alberdi, que es el vino de entrada, hasta el Gran Reserva 890, son excepcionales. Te recomiendo que pruebes, pruebes y al final compres porque son vinos muy bien estructurados que serán un puro éxito en tu copa. Ademas tienen a otras marcas como Aster y Torre de Oña...

La cata se realiza en la vinoteca a través de copas. pagas por copa y así puedes elegir qué vino comprar. También puedes pedir picoteos como el delicioso jamón ibérico entre otros que harán que tu experiencia de degustación sea aún más espectacular.

Las instalaciones son limpias, modernas, elegantes, acordes con los productos de la marca. Se nota el cuidado con el entorno y eso refleja los conceptos de la marca.

Como amante de la marca seguiré comprando sus vinos, pero no puedo decir que mi visita haya tenido una experiencia tan satisfactoria cuanto el placer de degustar a sus vinos.
