Hilarious beach bar! Some very unusual characters come and go through 'Andys' - mostly the hired entertainment. Great place to enjoy drinks on a beautiful beach as the sun sets.
What's a bit annoying:
Quite popular with the casually racist mildly obese white elderly Brit squad. Lots of fags smoked, a few swears and crackling raucus guffaws. All meant in the spirit of, well gin most likely. Harmless in the main.
Often popular with the charm offensive dodgy goods pushers, known locally as the 'lucky lucky men'. If you turn on your best 'stern glares' and decline their almost irresistable offers of a 'genuine real leather automatic belt' they'll leave you alone....for five minutes. Harmless in the main.
The food. Best just stick to chips. Do not TOUCH the thousand island dressing. You'll keel over laughing, before you realise it's serious and you've actually just bought it with your own money.
What's great:
The beach. It's glorious at Andy's Bar!
The nearby boardwalk. A new addition to the area meaning what was once a rather seedy cruising spot (the nearby woods - no pun intended) is now part of a beautiful wooden-clad walkway which stretches for miles. Andy's Bar makes for a fine pitstop if you're attempting a chunk of the boardwalk.
Free wifi. If you're not relaxing with a good book.
Toilets are in reasonably good nick.
Not too many children getting in the way; there's enough beach for them and enough beach for people enjoying the bar.
The folly. An unusual tower can be found near the carpark just off...
Read moreEdited review. Had posted a 5 star review previously. We live not far and arrived today. We asked for a table for two. The first lady working to the east side of the bar wearing all black, was rude. We then went to the other side of the bar, a lovely waiter seated us. Another waiter then came over and started hitting the reserve sign on the table and telling us it was reserved. We explained that we had been told to sit here. He continued to be rude. We explained to the first waiter that it is not your fault that mistakes happen. The waiter who was working on the west side with the beaded necklaces was rude to us and his colleague. He should not work in hospitallity!!!! We have left, as we dont want our money going there. It was a shame as was a great spot.
Original: Great location, right on the beach. Was very busy but the staff were very attentive and the food arrived quickly. The live music was great. Food tasty, we had Calamari and Swordfish. My only feeback would to add some dressing to the salad and more than one slice of tomato, as it was...
Read moreIf you are NOT hungry, great place to go for lunch as you have to wait while seated for MORE THAN ONE HOUR, with no explanation from a waiter (don't know who our waiter was either) for any food (including salads) to arrive at the table whilst your child starts crying for hunger. Waiters did not appear to be concerned and supposing the kitchen staff were overworked???
Waiters literally RUNNING though the dining area with FULL TRAYS of beverages, an accident with a child or anyone just waiting to happen. VERY over-priced due to lack of other options in the area while at the beach. Why would a restaurant management allow servers to RACE though a dining area full of clients and children? Not impressive at all.
There was a time a few years back when we really enjoyed this place but apparently their own success is their own worst enemy. Doubtful will return to this establishment again this coming season (2017).
Did not return in 2017 nor 2018 but perhaps will give it a...
