This ride is a wonder, a nearly perfect hypercoaster. B&M topped their monstrous looper Dragon Khan by making this one arch right over the top of it.
Unlike Dragon Khan (but like most other hypercoasters), this one has no over-the-shoulder restraints, just B&M's very comfortable "clamshells" which clamp down over your lap and hold you in place. The seats are four across but staggered, with the outer seats in each row shifted relative to the inner ones so that every rider has a lot of open space around them, a freeing sensation. You get wonderful views of the sea and the park on the way up.
The beginning of the ride is extraordinary, a drop of about 250 feet (78 meters) that is probably the best first drop I've ever ridden. The first plunge takes you into a tunnel, then there's an airtime camelback hill followed by a unique, twisting turnaround element called the "ampersand"; this looks like an inversion but actually isn't one.
There's a speed hill that gives you the most intense airtime moment on the ride, the one bit of arguable ejector air. Then it's more graceful hills giving you a floating sensation. There is a "splashdown" element that is just for show (actually coordinated jets of water; you don't really get wet). Near the end, there's a midcourse brake run, after which the ride somewhat runs out of steam with some more small hills. But up to that point it's world-class.
I think I would rank it just below Six Flags New England's Superman: The Ride, by competitor Intamin. The layout isn't quite as brilliant or forceful as Superman's. On the other hand, Shambhala has better trains and certainly more comfortable restraints, and far more beautiful theming. It's one of the most slickly produced thrill rides...
Read moreTo me Shambhala is the most amazing and the most incredible sensation that you can experience by riding in a rollercoaster.
If you're going for the first time, I recommend you to go in this one, don't be scared by the height or speed, or by the fact that you don't have a harness over your chest, you won't be shaken and you won't move 1cm in the chair!
We went on 21 October 2022, on a Saturday. bought beside the ticket also the EXPRESS MAX for 50 euro/ person and for only €5 more we turn your Express Max into Express Max Gold, which allows you to access the front row on Shambhala, Furius Baco and Dragon Khan
The 55 euro Express Max Gold was worth it because when we arrived at 12:20 to the roller coaster the people who were already standing in the waiting area was already full to capacity and at the fast line, approximately 20 people, but we didn't wait at all because of this Gold ticket, which allows you to access...

Very good, efficient operations & boarding. We visited on a Sunday with much lower crowds than we anticipated in the theme park so queue time was excellent at under 20mins.
The roller coasters at Port Aventura dominate the skyline across the park and as we got closer to it just seemed to be getting higher and faster. The ride is located in the China section of the park.
The ride is insane that hill climb at over 70m just keeps going and it slowly seems to teeter over the top before that crazy first drop. The free fall coupled with the wind breeze hitting you full force certainly wakes you up!
The ride is very smooth and it's nice not having any brain shaking head/ shoulder restraints.
I also love the fact this is an extreme hypercoaster with no...
