After passing on the main road outside town so many times (on the route Lisbon-Madrid) I finally decided to visit it on a November rainy day. It is a poor town, not fancy, not crowded... and then you hit the main square and plunge into the Late Middle Age! What struck me the most was the sheer authenticity of the whole centre - Pizarro's equestrian statue, church, castle, pre-historic monoliths. This place hasn't been rebuilt or arranged to please, it is the real thing and I can assure it is impressive.

Pass through an archway as you enter into Plaza Mayor in Trujillo. There are cafe / restaurants with covered terraces, small shops, a large church and a monument paying tribute to Trujillo-born explorer & conquistador, Francisco Pizzaro. The plaza was relatively quiet on a hot summer afternoon in August making it possible to enjoy its vastness.

Gorgeous medieval plaza! If you want to enjoy it at its best, make sure you visit it before people start parking their cars all around it and buses loaded with clueless groups of tourists invade it. So go there before 10 am or after 10 pm. You can also get amazing views of the plaza and the whole town from the Alcázar.

It is a medieval square with a lots of charm and many old palaces from the 16th century. An interesting statue of Pizarro the conqueror of Peru. Many pleasant terraces where one can drink a beer or a glass of wine and eat some "tapas" under a shadow and sprayed by fresh cold water.
