I recently visited the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias in Valencia with my family, and I can’t recommend it highly enough—5 stars all the way! This futuristic complex is an absolute gem, blending jaw-dropping architecture with hands-on fun that’s perfect for kids and adults alike. If you’re looking for a place that sparks curiosity, entertains, and educates all at once, this is it. From the moment we arrived, my kids (ages 1 and 3) were wide-eyed at the stunning design—those sleek, space-age buildings look like something out of a sci-fi movie! The whole place feels like a playground for the imagination, and it’s so much more than just a pretty sight. We spent the entire day exploring, and there wasn’t a single dull moment. The Oceanogràfic was the standout for us—what an incredible aquarium! My kids were glued to the glass watching sharks glide by, and the dolphin show had them cheering and clapping like it was the best day of their lives. There are tunnels where you’re surrounded by fish, and the interactive exhibits let them learn about marine life in a way that’s so much fun they didn’t even realize they were learning. It’s brilliantly designed to keep little ones engaged, with plenty of colorful displays and just the right amount of wow factor. Then there’s the Science Museum (Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe)—pure heaven for curious kids! It’s packed with hands-on experiments where they could touch, play, and figure things out for themselves. They built structures, played with electricity, and even got to see a live science demo that had them giggling and asking a million questions afterward. The “no walls, no limits” vibe of the museum makes it feel so open and inviting, and it’s the kind of place where kids can run around and explore without you worrying about them breaking something. The Hemisfèric was another hit—a 3D planetarium experience that had my kids leaning forward in their seats, totally immersed in the stars and underwater worlds projected all around us. It’s such a cool way to introduce them to science and nature, and the comfy seats gave us parents a little breather too! What I loved most as a parent was how kid-friendly the whole complex is. There’s so much space to roam, plenty of spots to grab a snack (the food courts are super convenient), and the staff were patient and helpful with our endless questions. Even the outdoor areas, like the gardens and bridges, turned into an adventure—my kids pretended they were explorers in some futuristic city, and I didn’t have to nag them to stay close because they were too busy having fun. It’s not cheap to do everything, but the combo tickets are worth every penny, especially if you’ve got kids who love to soak up new experiences. We left with tired feet, big smiles, and a camera full of photos—plus, my kids haven’t stopped talking about it since. Whether your little ones are into animals, science, or just running around in a cool space, Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias is a dream day out. Valencia is lucky to have this masterpiece, and we’ll...

The Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias is one of the most impressive cultural and architectural complexes I’ve ever visited. Whether you’re into science, art, architecture, or just want to wander somewhere striking, this place delivers on all fronts.

Architecture & Atmosphere

The architecture alone is reason enough to visit. Designed by Santiago Calatrava, the buildings look like something from the future—sleek, white, and surreal against the bright blue sky. Just walking around the exterior is an experience in itself, with shallow pools reflecting the curves and angles of the structures. It’s a photographer’s dream.

Attractions

There’s a lot to do, so plan for at least a full day if you want to explore properly. • L’Oceanogràfic: Easily one of the best aquariums in Europe. The variety of marine life, from belugas and dolphins to jellyfish and sharks, is amazing. The underwater tunnel is a highlight. • Museo de las Ciencias: Very interactive and perfect for families or anyone curious. It leans more fun than academic—great for hands-on learning. • Hemisfèric: A 3D IMAX cinema in an eye-shaped building. It’s worth checking the schedule in advance if you want to catch a specific film. • Umbracle: A peaceful open-air garden with native plants and great views of the complex—especially nice at sunset.

Surroundings & Facilities

The whole area is clean, spacious, and easy to walk. There are plenty of benches, shaded areas, and good signage in multiple languages. Cafés and snack spots are scattered around, and prices are reasonable for a major tourist attraction.

If you’re visiting in the summer, bring water and sunscreen—there’s a lot of open space with little shade in some areas. Renting a bike or pedalo nearby is also a fun way to take it all in.

Tips • Book tickets online to skip queues, especially for the aquarium. • Go early to avoid the midday heat and crowds. • If you’re into photography, stay into the evening—the buildings look incredible lit up at night.

Final Thoughts

This isn’t just a tourist stop, it’s a genuinely enriching experience that combines learning with beauty. Whether you’re spending an hour or a whole day, the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias is a must-see if you’re...
