CHOOSE ANOTHER HOTEL. DO NOT STAY HERE!
I would strongly recommend choosing another hotel for your stay in wonderful Valencia to avoid the problems I experienced at this place.
I stayed here for 7 nights and was deeply disappointed by the room cleaning service, which was nearly non-existent.
When we complained at reception, we were told the cleaners had logged that we had the "Do Not Disturb" sign on our door—which was false. In fact, on the second day, we saw a note from the cleaner stating that the room would not be cleaned because we had declined service, but right beneath that note was our clearly visible "Please Clean the Room" sign.
We complained again, but nothing changed. Our premium room (510), costing ~€300/night for a view, remained uncleaned. The only compensation offered? Some snacks from the bar. I wasn’t looking for snacks—I simply expected what I paid for: a clean room, fresh towels, and a made bed.
The condition of the room was unacceptable. It was incredibly dusty—far beyond what could accumulate in two days. I’ve attached photos showing the dirt under the bed, which speaks for itself.
We also initially had no toiletries in the bathroom—not even the basics. After our first complaint, we received full amenities and bathrobes. But this only happened after we voiced our issues—why weren’t they there to begin with?
Despite the added amenities, the room was not cleaned again the next day. Why? No explanation. Just repeated excuses.
When we were leaving, a manager promised we would be compensated for this “unusual” situation—but that promise was later withdrawn. We were told that only Barceló Group could authorize compensation and that we should file a written complaint. I did, on April 5th, 2024. Paula (Guest Experience Manager) reached out to me later asking to talk—but never followed up after I responded.
This hotel promotes itself as modern, eco-conscious, and guest-focused. But the reality? They failed to provide even the most basic service expected from any hotel. Management failed. Accountability failed. And unfortunately, customer care is mostly talk, not action.
To future guests: ask yourself if this is the kind of service you’re willing to risk for the price. You may not get what you pay for—and worse, you may not get a proper response when you try to fix it.
As George Orwell said: “However much you deny the truth, the truth goes on existing.” And so will...
Read moreFor people reading this review I must stress we are a couple living in the UK but have a holiday home in Southern Spain. We had never been to Valencia before so decided, after hearing great reviews, to spend our 37th Wedding anniversary in the city. We have stayed at the Barcelo hotels before throughout the years around Spain and the World so viewed this one and decided it was in a great location to spend a celebratory visit. So thankful that we chose this hotel as we encountered some fantastic service from when we arrived, throughout the four days we were there, until we left and the staff were very accommodating to our needs. would we go here again? Absolutely YES as we thought Valencia is a fantastic city. The hotel is a fantastic hotel in a great location for viewing the city and the staff from reception through to management and the cleaning staff were all absolutely amazingly friendly. I wish some of the hotels within the world we have visited showed the same attention to detail to what we received at the Valencia Barcelo. If they did then the hotel world would be a fantastic place. Special mention must go to Laura on reception. Laura was absolutely amazing with all advice and recommendations as well as personal attention to our needs throughout our stay which was amazing and she served us every time with an infectious smile and appearance. On our arrival she was absolutely amazing and welcoming. We arrived at 11.00am in the morning and as I had paid for 4 days parking all we wanted to do was leave our car in the secure parking facility. Laura asked us immediately was there a reason for choosing the Barcelo to which I replied ‘To celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. Laura then informed us that she had had permission to upgrade our room and that there was one available already and we could check in there and then even though official check in was much later in the day. This meant we could start our mini break immediately without having to return to the hotel later in the day to check in. This was absolutely amazing as in the past when we have used budget hotel in London we have been extortionately charged and on this occasion Barcelo Valencia charged us nothing and we thank them tremendously for this. Once again very many thanks to everyone at the hotel for making our 37th Wedding Anniversary so...
Read moreI have stayed at Barceló Valencia every year for the last 8 years, normally for 8 to 10 nights. As you enter the hotel reception is facing you and I have never known there not to be a member of the reception team ready to welcome you, in my experience they have always been very professional, friendly and helpful. The reception area is large with very nice decor and plenty of comfortable seating, on the ground floor you also have the restaurant. In the evening there is a security guard on duty in reception ensuring that access to the amazing rooftop bar with spectacular views is controlled & not overcrowded. The breakfast selection is wonderful, however, I am unable to comment on the evening menu as I have never taken advantage of it. The bedrooms are very very clean nice and modern, comfortable beds, good selection of towels and toiletries there is also a safety deposit box. You can choose to have a room overlooking the Turia with views of the Arts and Science museum. Housekeeping ensure that your room is thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis. There is a small rooftop terrace with a plunge pool and sunbeds for relaxation and sunbathing. I have never had an issue getting a sunbed, that said it can get busy later in the afternoon. The hotel location is excellent, you can walk across the Turia into the city where you can shop, visit the Cathedral, various museums and places of interest. There is an abundance of cafés, bars and restaurants. If you turn left out of the hotel you can make your way towards an alternative shopping area, the port and the beach. For those not wishing to walk, outside the hotel you can take the No 19 bus, travelling left will take you to the beach and right towards the city, the final stop being the train station. I can't thank Maria and Paula enough for ensuring I had a perfect holiday and a special thank you to Alba on reception who checked me in & always gave a welcome wave whenever she spotted me in reception. I am so looking forward to staying...
