During my stop in Stockholm on a cruise, I stumbled upon Bonde Palace (Bondeska Palatset) while exploring Gamla Stan (Old Town)—and I’m so glad I did. Tucked away just a short walk from the Royal Palace and Riddarhuset, this historic building stands out for its restrained elegance and rich history.
Built in the mid-17th century as a private residence for Count Gustaf Bonde, the palace is one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in Sweden. Its clean lines, symmetrical façade, and understated decorative details are striking in their simplicity and refinement. The white plastered walls and grey stone framing give it a timeless, almost stately presence. The front courtyard is especially picturesque—framed by classic lanterns and iron gates, it feels like stepping back into another era.
Today, the Bonde Palace houses the Supreme Court of Sweden, which adds a layer of significance to your visit. Though the building isn’t open to the public for tours, its exterior alone is worth pausing to admire—especially if you appreciate history, law, or architecture.
What I loved most was how quiet and uncrowded the area was compared to some of the nearby tourist spots. It’s the kind of place you might overlook if you’re not seeking it out, but it absolutely rewards the curious traveler.
