I first entered Stampen in 2010 by chance. when walking in my favourite area of Stockholm which is called Gamla stan. I found this fantastic Rock and Jazz club.
Many Jazz and Rock musicians have played there, even US President Bill Clinton have been rumoured to have played there.
One of my film heroes Woody Allen and also British comedy legend Marty Feldman RIP did play there in the past.Woody who plays Clarinet and Marty who played the drums!
Stampen has a brilliant vibe and the bar staff are so friendly. I have become friends with one over the last few years. They have great bar snacks and a brilliant selection of beers, wines and spirits.
There's a bar in the basement which also has a stage for live bands as well as the one on street level which I prefer. It does get very hot inside in the summertime, but you can go outside and get some air. The patrons vary from teenages to us older folk!! All dance and have much fun. I love this place.
The bands that play there are really great. One guitarist that I saw last year was as good as Carlos Santana!
If you are in Stockholm, you must go one evening and I promise you will love every moment!

Read moreJazz enthusiast Sten Holmquist discovered Stampen as a pawnshop romantically located in the old town of Stockholm. It came complete with a 17th century cellar, and until 1880 had been the premises of the French Reform Church. Converted into a jazz pub in 1968 years ago, many antique items – stuffed animals and instruments – still hang from the ceiling of Stampen, betraying its roots
It has become a meeting place for people of all ages, offering anything from the “American Folk Music of 1910-1959” – traditional jazz as it is known to some – to modern blues, or soul r&b acts. Or as we simply put it: American...
Read moreIt’s a cool little place but man was I disappointed in the jam they have on Saturdays,I’m surprised the jam leaders ego fits in that small place. I came to play and honestly just tried to talk to him about playing and he was obviously intoxicated and slurred his words and was just downright rude. I heard good things about the place so I thought I’d give it a shot since I was in town and just got done playing some shows. On a bright note(pun intended) I found out he doesn’t host all the jams. He was some guy from New York who played bass and talked to the muscians like they were garbage and like he owned the place. Cool place but with this guys ego ruined it for me. There are other places to play in old town Stockholm, so don’t bother wasting time playing here when...
