If you're ever in Basel, Switzerland, a visit to the local zoo is an absolute must! I recently had the pleasure of exploring the Basel Zoo, and I couldn't be happier with my experience.
One of the first things that struck me about the zoo was how nice and open it felt. The spacious layout allowed for plenty of room to move around and enjoy the different exhibits without feeling crowded. The pathways were well-maintained and easy to navigate, making my stroll through the zoo a pleasant and enjoyable one.
The variety of animals at the Basel Zoo was truly impressive. From majestic big cats like lions and tigers to playful primates like monkeys and lemurs, there was something for everyone to see and appreciate. I was especially thrilled to see some rare and exotic species that I hadn't encountered in other zoos before, such as red pandas and snow leopards. The zoo's commitment to conservation and biodiversity was evident in the wide range of animals they had on display, and it was heartwarming to see their dedication to preserving endangered species.
The vivarium, a highlight of the zoo, was beautifully done. The lush greenery and carefully designed habitats created a natural and immersive experience for the visitors. I was able to observe various reptiles, amphibians, and insects up close, and it was truly fascinating to learn about their unique characteristics and behaviors. The attention to detail in the vivarium was evident, and it added an educational element to my visit.
The zoo's restaurant also had a dedicated kids corner, which was a thoughtful touch. It was a perfect spot for young children to take a break, enjoy some kid-friendly meals, and have some fun with interactive activities. It was evident that the zoo made an effort to cater to families and create a welcoming environment for visitors of all ages.
Overall, my experience at the Basel Zoo was fantastic. The nice and open layout, the good view on the animals, the variety of species, the beautifully designed vivarium, and the kids corner in the zoo restaurant all contributed to a memorable visit. I highly recommend a trip to the Basel Zoo if you're ever in the area – it's a must-see destination for animal lovers, nature enthusiasts, and...
Read moreThe Zoo is actually quiet fun and has some very interesting animals. It is an overall very covered zoo with much vegetation along the paths.
In the beginning of the zoo you'll find the standard animals for switzerland and the more you go to the back of the zoo, you will find the exotic ones. The zoo size is very similar to Zurich. Zurich is wider and Basel ist just longer.
We went on Saturday on a beautiful day and there were almost no guests in the park. I really liked the new birds house, very modern and a little like the "masoala hall" in the zurich zoo, but way smaller (tropical athosphere and plants with high humidity).
Ther is just one thing i need to complain: The Parking solutions is terrible. You drive onto the parking lot of the zoo (which btw is not only for zoo guests!) and then there is no easypark or parkingpay at the ticketmachine - you have to choose basels own app or pay with coins. Why does basel need their own parking system - why dont choose the one which is already in integrated in switzerland like easypark or parkingpay or twintparking??? I will never understand that... Anyway - you can pay either on the ticket machine but there will be a max time of 3 hours. Spoiler: You need more than 3 hours for the whole zoo to explore... Or you pay at the entrance of the zoo: So you go to the Ticketstation of the zoo, stand in line and get a zoo ticket AND a parking Ticket. BUT you have to put the parking ticket visible in to your car. So you walk back to your car and then get back to the Zoo entrance and show your zoo ticket. That is a horrible system!! They should either make the whole process digital, get rid of the max parking time or hand out parking tickets for your...
