This hotel was a wonderful breath of fresh air to close out our 10 day Europe trip. We chose it because of the proximity to the train station (across the street) and the trams (across the street), but unexpectedly I am glad I did for the pick up for bus #50 to the Europort at 4:30 in the morning, which picks up right in front of the hotel. I was looking for a car service which would have cost over 200CHF but instead grabbed this bus for free with the free Basel transportation pass that the hotel gave me and my family.|Let’s be honest, we talk about European, or really any large city hotels as “charming” or “boutique” and really what we mean is “small”. I know we are out and about sightseeing so a “hotel room is really just for sleeping” but, at least for me, coming back to a small room and small bathroom at the end of a long day really stinks. |This hotel does it right! Fantastic and efficient check-in. This was where we got directions for bus 50 which saved me a lot of anxiety and money. The hotel is just roomy all around. Wide stairs and a large elevator. Our room was huge, not just for Europe, but for any hotel. A really large, two sink bathroom. The bed was extra comfy and (thank you!!) the air conditioning was top notch. I have never sweated so much as I did the week before my arrival to the Schweizerhof Basel. And on the second floor they have a fridge with as much still and sparkling water as you can drink. Such a savior on a really hot day.|It’s a short walk to old town and the hotel is locating in a bustling area of the city, but an oasis of calm once you walk inside.|I absolutely loved this hotel and would highly recommend to anyone. Outstanding value for the money and the location...
Read moreRight across from the sbb station. Conveniently located near all the trams, buses and trains. Walking distance into the town or a quick ride away. Building is secure even though near a major station. Yusuf the Front desk guy was really helpful and courteous. Rooms are decent size, however there is no coffee machine (only instant coffee). There are a few essentials missing in the room like soaps and lotions, but they quickly brought it up on request. We had breakfast included, so had our coffee in the breakfast room downstairs. It was a typical breakfast with decent selection of items, my favorite was the overnight oats with fruits. However, we couldn’t finish our breakfast downstairs except it coffee, So decided to take up to the room and finish it. There was a server (vivvy his name), who was extremely rude to us and stopped us from taking it up. I told him I’ll talk to the manager who was helping others at the moment, this guy couldn’t handle the fact that we wouldn’t listen to him and started going to each person at the front office and telling them how we shouldn’t be taking our breakfast. This was extremely embarrassing for us and insulting. These are the kind of people that ruin reputations. I do have to mention, there was a really nice girl who was helping us bring our coffee to the table. Overall, decent quickly in and out kind of hotel with easy access. If it wasn’t was that rude server I could have given a 5 star for...
Read moreI usually stay around the corner at the Victoria. The Schweizerhof is homy when you enter and the breakfast buffet is quite nice (make sure to ask for coffee quickly if your in a hurry).
My room was small but could be adequate. After the first night I found that my mattress was ruined. Seemed as though guests had sat at the head of the bed alot as that's the natural place to sit and watch TV. So it was like lying in a whole. I wrote a note for maintenance and talked to reception. They turned it into "sir, if you want to change rooms we are fully booked" and but then you need to pack and bring all your stuff" I said all I expected was they replace the mattress. No, they would turn it over and I could tell them the next day if it is OK.
Next the lamp on the desk didn't work. Again, I wrote to maintenance on the doorknob. It took them 3 days.
When I was to check out after 5 nights with them, my flight was cancelled and re-booked to a few hours later. I could extend a bit... For 20chf per hour! Why!? My company puts groups in their hotel every day of the year and I had just been there for 5 nights. They obviously had capacity to allow me a few hours.
Anyway. Back to the...
