This is undoubtedly a great place to stay when visiting Basel, above all for its excellent location, just a stone's throw from the main Swiss and French railway station and the tram hub. The level of service afforded to me from the staff was exceptional, and I had everything I needed for a superb stay here. The room was warm and cosy and in pristine condition. The bathroom was spotlessly clean, and I even enjoyed having both an aperitif and digestif on the small balcony before and after dinner. The bar staff were extremely welcoming, and I enjoyed some late night chat here with fellow guests before retiring to my room. The price was very good value, considering how expensive Swiss hotels can be. The only downsides were that the reception informed me that they do not offer any possibility of late checkout (my return flight being at 9pm) and that at breakfast the meat and cheese boards (as you can see from my video) were completely uncovered. I witnessed many guests coughing over them or in the vicinity (remember it was winter and germs galore!!!). I really feel that they should be covered with lift-up plastic lids, as is my experience in many other hotels, and for this reason, I felt very uncomfortable selecting food from the display, however tempting it appeared. This was particularly disappointing since breakfast was not cheap here. If they could improve on those two aspects, particularly the latter, then I would have happily awarded...
Read morePerfect location. Literally a stones throw away from the main train station and direct access to the Basel tram network, so that is a plus. You also receive a free ‘travel card’ if you stay at Hotel Euler to use the trams and busses in the Basel area.
The staff were friendly and spoke English which is a plus if you are a tourist. They attended to all our requests (minor what we wanted but still they were acknowledged and dealt with).
The breakfast was included in our hotel price , nice little buffet choice of bacon, scrambled eggs and sausages with a choice of pastries , fruit and yogurt. A choice of 2 cheeses , salmon and some cold meat. Coffee, tea and fruit juices were available. A simple breakfast but that is all that was needed to fill you up for the day.
Sitting outside on the patio area , people watching in the sunshine while eating breakfast was a perfect start to the day.
We made use of the restaurant the afternoon before and had a pleasant light lunch with friendly service.
The hotel room was clean, the bathroom was clean. Sure the carpets are a little dated but it is not listed as a 5 star so I was not expecting a 5 star type carpet , so that would be unfair to judge them on that.
I would definitely go there again if I had a few things planned for an outing in Basel and would require an...
Read moreThe hotel could not be better situated. It is across from the train station and in front of the tram station. The Euler has provided us with free passes for public transportation so we are really happy with having it at our front doorstep. There are lots of cafes, restaurants, a Starbucks and little markets nearby. The housekeeping staff is great. They take care of straightening up early each day. The bed is comfy, our room, although it looks over a busy intersection, is well sound proofed. The bathroom is so clean. Spotless. And the bathtub shower provides plenty of hot water. Someone commented that the room was small. I think they have not been in many European hotels. The room is perfect for our stay of 8 nights. I have never felt cramped. There was a plate of fresh fruit in the room when we arrived. And there is a bowl of beautiful apples in the hallway everyday for one to help oneself to. I love this place. My only negative observation is that when we checked in the desk clerk was polite but didn’t have that warmth that I want from a desk clerk. And since we checked in I have not seen any clerks at the front desk. They are always busy in the back somewhere. I like to be greeted when I come in from a day of sightseeing. I think that just may be a Swiss thing. All in all I am really happy...
