ROOMS: Stayed here for 3 nights. I stayed on the first floor. It feels slightly unsecure as anyone can walk through and go into the hallway where the rooms are. When you walk in, you plug in your room key and the room welcomes you by turning on all the lights and opening the electric shutter - EVERYTIME. Great in the day time, but terrible when coming back at night if you want privacy. Every night when you come back, the electric shutter opens all the way. The first night my shower flooded the bathroom, seems like they didn't seal the shower door correctly. I asked the front desk to change rooms. Thankfully they switched me to the third floor.
Second night the electronic shutter automatically opened on its own at night - kind of freaky if you didn't intend to do this. The shutter is on the window and there is a curtain in front of it to block out the light in front of the shutters for full blackout. I tried to close it again (it can only be closed electronically) - it did, but later that night, it opened by itself AGAIN. At this point I just left it open and relied on the curtains to block out light (it works okay, blocking out 80% of light).
The hotel is trying really hard to look like an upscale hotel when it's actually cheaply built. There are quite a few annoyances, examples: electric blind/shutters not working as intended (second room), bathroom shower door leaking (first room), bathroom door doesn't close (my second room), no light in the closet (both rooms) - so it's super dark when you're trying to look for something in your suitcase. It seems like a newer hotel but honestly, if you go to any large 4 star hotel chain, these problems never happened to me, you expect the basics to work. The hotel was poorly planned and designed.
SERVICE: Workers there are nice, I didn't have issues with them. I'm glad they changed my room quickly.

Read moreMy girlfriend and I spent 2 nights at the Passage Hotel during our visit to Basel.
The location is amazing - it's located right at the edge of the city center with underground parking nearby and really easily accessibility to all of the main tourist sites.
The hotel itself is quite modern with a unique Interior Design and plenty of options for relaxing or seating if you don't feel like hanging out in the room.
The room that we had came with a quiet Courtyard view and was surprisingly spacious considering some of the smaller rooms that we had during our visit to Switzerland.
There was a large and comfortable bed right in the center of the room, a spacious workspace area, a seating area with a coffee table, and a large entrance area.
The bathroom was also quite spacious, modern, and it came equipped with both a bathtub and shower so there are some options when it comes to your bathing choices. All the amenities that you would need are provided and the bathroom is very well equipped for a short-term stay in the city.
I found that the wifi worked quite well and the high ceilings along with the large window let in plenty of natural light during the day.
Breakfast was served on the main level each morning and the Breakfast came with a decent selection of items so that there's no need to grab something else nearby until lunch or dinner.
Overall, I would definitely recommend staying at the Passage Hotel if you're visiting Basel and looking for something modern with comfortable rooms and...

Don't expect more than minimal hospitality, minimal decor, and a basic boutique vibe. But if you can get past that, you are in for a pleasant surprise at this hotel which is kind of perched in an odd location but good for a short stay in the city. At the price I paid and what I got, it was a great value for money
LOCATION: Odd location but not too far from main points of interest
DINE + DRINK: The lobby level cafe/bar is a pretty cool place to chill out and lounge
ROOM: I stayed in 405, so this review is based on that; VIEW: nothing special ; SIZE: reasonably spacious room; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part to put me to sleep; BATHROOM: Stand in shower; TOILETRIES: Good Spa quality cosmetics from L’Occitaine
FACILITIES: Probably the most hidden asset of this hotel is the wonderful Gym / Fitness centre they have on-site. Fantastic for a full-on workout, with a full range of weights and Cardio machines
SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all my needs sweetly.
HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free high-speed Wi-Fi that works well all over...
