My husband and I had a wonderful experience here in Fox Cabin 107 for 4 days. We came at the busiest time of year, every day was very hot and the campground was fully booked with lots of people and families. And yet we never felt annoyed or inconvenienced, I was very impressed by how smoothly the staff keep up the huge size of this camp!
The campground is right across from Staubbachfall, it can be clearly seen from the reception area and most of the tent pitches. It can't really be seen from the Fox Cabins due to trees blocking the view, but I wouldn't trade the trees for a view when you could just take two steps to the side. Plus the Jungfraujoch can be seen clearly from the whole facility!
There are 3 sanitary buildings, the closest to the fox cabins is attached to the main lodge and is also the smallest and most busy. There are only 3 toilets and 4 showers, and isn't very private, so we used sanitary 2 for all our showering. It was more of a walk but sanitary 2 is very big, and has couples/family private shower rooms with a toilet, sink, and hairdryer in the space. I recommend to wake up early (we would shower around 6am) and you'll never have issues with wait times or crowded facilities. On the other hand all facilities were very crowded around 7am and 7pm, so be flexible!
An additional note is I would recommend to use the laundry machine near the entrance that only takes coin francs, it was almost never used and you didn't have to faff about with the wash app that seemed to make more chaos than order (a lot of people had issues with the queue system in the app with the poor wifi connection in the sanitary buildings).
The shared kitchen was great- while we didn't cook much there, there was always enough space in the fridge and freezer, and the other campers had good manners in washing the shared dishes and keeping clean. Again just avoid the kitchen around 7pm because that's when it's the most busy. The kitchen hours are strictly 7am to 10pm as well so there's an expectation to observe quiet hours.
Also, I just want to express how much I appreciate the manners of European campers! While the campsite was very very crowded and busy, the moment it turned 10pm it was quiet as a church and very peaceful. We were never bothered by people playing music, loud voices after hours, or children screaming and being inappropriate. On the weekend there was a more festive atmosphere with live music and people chatting by the lodge until late, so if you stay in the hostel room it would probably be much more noisy.
For us, the fox cabin was a perfect price point for the very expensive Lauterbrunnen valley- a private space detached with no one stomping above you (my big problem with chalets is the lack of soundproofing!), quiet peace at night, and all the amenities and festive fun of a camp experience during the day. We would absolutely stay here again, and next time I would request the cabin next to the little river for even...
Read moreI had an unforgettable tent camping experience with my family at Camping Jungfrau. The campsite is in a prime position to experience the best of the Swiss Alps. During our visit during the peak season, the site was very busy. There were some noisier pitching areas, but fortunately, we were placed in a quieter spot.
The campsite has a high-density approach, so pitches are marked out and very close together. While there are amazing views of the valley's cliffs, waterfalls, and mountains, there is little privacy or personal space due to the crowded conditions. Quiet times are well observed between 10 pm and 7 am, with staff onsite to monitor. Pedestrian access to the site is not secured, and vehicle access is only restricted during quiet times. However, we never felt unsafe, even when random tourists wandered past.
The campsite's facilities were as described. The modern bathrooms and dishwashing area were well-maintained, and the onsite shop and laundry machines were a bonus, especially when travelling with kids. The restaurant, cosy lounge, central meeting area, and bar were perfect for unwinding after a day of hiking or sightseeing.
During the peak season, the toilet and shower facilities sometimes faced queues, which affected their cleanliness. It would be helpful to have a hygiene station with basic cleaning equipment available if frequent cleaning is not possible. Additionally, the kids' outdoor play area needed refurbishment, and there was no space for activities like kicking a ball around. The communal kitchen had a freezer and fridge, but they were usually full during our stay. We also bizarrely found it difficult to source large bags of ice in the local area, even at the supermarkets in Interlaken.
While we were there, the site hosted a local folklore evening with local musicians, which was a fabulous cultural experience. Our visit also coincided with Swiss National Day, featuring a parade through Lauterbrunnen and a fireworks display over the nearby waterfalls, which was a magical bonus!
We encountered a couple of issues during our stay, but the staff and management addressed them promptly and courteously. Their genuine concern for guests' satisfaction left a very positive impression.
In summary, Camping Jungfrau is situated in a slice of alpine paradise. Whether you're an avid hiker or simply seeking the alpine experience, this campsite's...
Read moreNot the place for some peace and quiet. Good location for exploring the valley and neighbouring villages.
Visited in beginning of September. Reserved pitch via internet, did a small payment ahead for doing so.
Our pitch was in front of the second sanitary building, which made a lot of people pass by our pitch, we had a lot of light from the building at night, it wasn't quiet until way past 22h, at 6h you could hear the cleaners. At night you could hear the music of the sanitary building.
Overall, lower rating due to our pitch location. If you are in the back of the campsite it's way less busy. However the sanitary building in the back is very much outdated and you are closed to the helicopter field.
Even though the campsite wasnt full there were sometimes queues for showers or all stalls were taken, building would get dirty quite quickly.
In the morning all stuff would be soaking wet (tent, clothes, chairs) due to humidity (because of the waterfalls? Or just general humidity).
During the day there is a continuous flow of helicopters flying over, this is quite loud. The sun dissapears and appears later due to being in the valley, makes a difference of about 3 hours.
The nature around Lauterbrunnen is amazing and we enjoyed our hike, although in general everything is quite expensive in swiss.
The overall price of the campsite still surprised me, negatively, we had to pay for our car and electricity on top of tent and two adults. For two nights this was about 125 euros. Later on I wondered if you had to still pay for your car if you would park at the top of the campsite and not on your pitch, makes a difference of 20eur. And you can charge your phone while brushing teeth at the sanitary building. Charging of electric cars not allowed on pitch, you need to pay extra is you wanna use their charger at reception.
Overall reception was great, staff was great but my biggest issue is really with the price and location worthiness.
Glad to have ticked off Lauterbrunnen and nature areas of my wish list, probably wont come back. Would recommend maybe camping nearby Interlaken, taking the train to Lauterbrunnen. This also gives you a bigger area to explore outside of Lauterbrunnen such as...
