we stayed in this hostel for about a week. I'll start with the positives, its location is simply superb, in the very center, near one of the famous waterfalls. The view from the window is impressive. Right below the hostel there is a cafe where you can have breakfast and dinner, compared to prices in the city - the prices are reasonable, the variety is small, two types of soups, burgers and many vegetarian dishes. Cleaning was done every day, especially in the bathroom, which is good, since many people live here and they change every day. Now the cons: There were no identifying signs in the house to see if we had arrived. And in general, the entrance is from the back of the building, which is inconvenient and unclear. When two guys arrived, they asked us to help them find the entrance and their room. This shows that it is difficult to orient yourself in the area when you are here for the first time. there is no reception to meet you when you arrive at the hotel, there is no administrator to solve any problems that arise, we were all the time without someone who could help us with something, in our room there were sockets with narrow plugs, which were only suitable for charging the phone, we could not connect other equipment, such as a laptop, hair dryer and other devices, and here again the problem of the lack of an administrator comes up, I had no one to turn to for an adapter, I wrote in the booking messages and they answered me that they did not have an adapter or other adapters, and I can take a hair dryer in that cafe downstairs, no solution to my problem. for me it seemed strange. I needed a laptop for work, and I can not even charge it in the place where I stayed. and the most interesting thing is that I found an adapter that was in the kitchen for a kettle, I took it, charged all my necessary devices and returned the place, but the management did not even offer me this option. The Wi-Fi here is terrible, we lived on the second floor and it caught only when sitting in the hallway, or near the doors to the room, and then with a constant disconnection, which is mega annoying. The room is very cold, I had to sleep in warm clothes, I even turned on the battery and it did not help. Very strong audibility. And one of the minuses for me is that after the guests left, the cleaning lady came and opened the windows, balcony and doors in all the rooms, which caused a draft, it was insanely cold, not only was the room cold, but there was also a terrible draft. maybe for one day of arrival all these minuses don't mean anything, but during my stay they were significant and spoiled my impression and comfort. the entrance to the hotel consisted of many steps, first into the building itself then to the floor of the room, which is inconvenient when you have things there was no trash bag in the room In the bathroom, the curtain doesn't help, the water still spills out onto the floor and leaves a puddle, there is no rug or separate towel, why should I stand for another half an hour and clean all this up? The water in the bathroom doesn't wash off, after taking a shower I had to stand for another 10 minutes for the water to drain and rinse it a little, from the remains of...
Read moreStayed in two different rooms in my stay here as each room wasn’t available for two consecutive nights. This was not an issue though as it was an Easy check in, staff were very nice in the cafe when I was too early to check into the room, let me use the facilities to hold my luggage and use the bathroom and upon checkout of first night, was safely able to leave luggage in property hallway. Good sized single rooms with a desk and comfortable beds. First room had two plug sockets and the other only one. first room didn’t have a mirror but the second did, this would’ve been nice in all rooms to make getting ready in the morning easier with the shared bathroom situation. I had the Mountain View room the first night which was lovely to see (and hear with the window open). Was able to have my window open all day in both rooms without flies coming in which has been a massive problem in my travels elsewhere, so that was very positive. Location is great and very accessible to everything in main town, train station, supermarket and just along the road from staubbachfall. Both nights I was able to check in slightly early, but also allowed me a seat inside the cafe around the back until the room was ready to get out of the midday sun! So that was very appreciated.
A complaint more so about the other guests rather than the integrity of the place. The walls are extremely thin, could hear next door neighbours up all night talking in their rooms. Also as much as the social areas are nice - it promotes anti social behaviour up all night being very loud. The top floor had the flooring ripped up but unsure if it was just in the process of replacement, this meant anyone walking to toilet/walking in hallway sounded like stomping alongside the heavy doors which were slammed constantly and the old lock mechanisms all being very loud (unavoidably so) - all on above heard through noise cancelling ear plugs.
Free WiFi is very slow but area has good mobile signal if you have a roaming sim.
The top floor bathroom was very disappointing and in much need of refurbishment and a good clean, the other floors was a lot nicer but anytime another guest used the shower the entire room flooded. Toilet paper also ran out very quickly with no way of refilling after 6pm when cafe shut. Would be nice if it was all consistent. The shared bathroom situation also wasn’t great as all shared bathrooms accessible regardless of what floor you stay on, this meant if a whole group came in showering at same time then there was no accessible toilet for ages. A separate shower room and toilet room situation might’ve been more ideal for this property. I didn’t use the shared kitchen but that’s a great option to have with the local restaurant prices and with the supermarket less than 5 minutes away walk.
All in all the service and staff were perfect, location is great, the room alone was clean and great standard, just everything else was a bit...
Read moreThe Hotel portion of this Cafe is horrible.
The bathrooms were disgusting for 3 days there was not a roll of toilet paper in any of the 3 shared bathrooms.
No toliet paper for 3 days - Bathrooms, 1 per floor, were shared between 19 rooms. about 5 per floor. Wait was normal.
Soap out. - The bottom bathroom door did not lock.
The shower head on 3rd floor was broken.
The bathroom walls and ceilings had mold on them.
Noise - The walls were paper-thin, and I could even hear a phone's vibration mode coming through the wall.
No staff available to answer calls or talk to in person on multiple attempts.
No response on WhatsApp phone #'s for both that were provided on the sign to the cafe (where check-in was) - Contact during normal business hours seemed impossible.
Messaging on booking.com also seems to be disabled. You cannot contact them there.
Email - there is no where else to contact them.
The check-in was also a cafe. If you wanted to talk after check-in about a concern - the response was... the person who does the hotel stuff was not there. During normal hours.
That is not a good way of doing business. I am currently trying to find a way to get reimbursed for the 3 night, which I chose to check out one night early because I was tired and felt as though the description of the place did not live up to expectations, and I didn't have high expectations to start. Toliet paper in shared bathrooms is a basic need and having spare rolls avaialble is a must. Also, accessibility and responses from staff, of which I am...
