Unfortunately we had to endure 3 days of very poor breakfasts, same thing every day, all cheap processed food bought in bulk: cold cereal, bowl of sweetened yogurt (I don't eat sweetened yogurt, and it was the same flavor every day - did they buy a supersized vat of it?), canned peaches, store bought pre-sliced breads, processed pre-sliced cheese (!?! in Switzerland!), pressed ham, coffee in a thermos. The only "fresh" item was an egg cooked to order (but only an egg). In contrast, all the other mountain hotels we stayed at over the course of 2 weeks, in the Swiss and Italian Alps (Zermatt, Kandersteg, Courmayeur) were less expensive (US$110-$160/night) AND had wonderful breakfasts with freshly baked breads, rolls, croissants, and pastries, interesting local cheeses and cold meats (sometimes an assortment of different types!), FRESH fruits (e.g. fruit salad, blueberries, sliced strawberries, sliced melons, etc.), a choice of natural or sweetened yogurt, or else an assortment of single-serving yogurts (but always with natural as an option), cereals, nuts, seeds, dried fruits, salad ingredients (tomatoes, cucumber, even lettuce in one), and eggs. So, for Chalet Rosa, a 1* for b'fast.
For room, a 2* for value. Room was clean and had adequate space, and luckily (as it was very warm in late June this year) it was a corner room so we had some cross-ventilation. However, WiFi in room was very poor so we had to go to the common area to access internet. There was only one hand towel for 2 people (and no washcloths), insufficient and inconveniently placed electrical outlets, no in-room hair dryer (all our other, less expensive hotels provided in-room hair dryers, no need to ask for one), and no tissues (my husband was allergic to something in the room and had to constantly blow his nose in toilet paper). If the hotel were $100, I'd overlook these relatively minor things, but for $170, I expect better.
On the positive side, the location was fine, between the train station and Staubbach Falls (thus a bit of a walk from/to the train, but I found it more "central" for our purposes). The hotel is right on the street, close to an intersection, and close to the town pub, so there is street noise. I'm hearing impaired so that didn't bother me, but be forewarned. The people are nice. We arrived around noon, well before check-in time, but the very cheerful and pleasant young UK girl who was there said our room was ready, and let us check in early, which we really appreciated. It is thanks to her that I give Chalet Rosa a 3* rather than 1* or 2*. I hope the management improves the breakfast for...
Read moreChalet Rosa is located near the falls which make it more convenient to walk around the falls and the area. They are so close to the street which makes it hard for people who like to sleep. You can literally hear the sound of people outside walking, talking and laughing out loud. Even the vehicles passing by can make noises and disturb your sleep.
The rooms donât have enough electrical plug. You have to plug your devices in the washroom or somewhere in the room where the cabinets are placed. No plugs beside your bed. Thereâs also no TV so youâre not having entertainment at night and youâll rely on your phone if you want to watch TV. Thereâs also no fridge in your room. Fridge is found at the common areas where you can put your personal items.
Also, their staff gave me a strict rule about grabbing a one Nutella spread from their kitchen. Take note, one Nutella spread. I was hungry one night and their staff told me that their kitchen is accessible for or during breakfast only. If thatâs the case, then either lock your kitchen or put the rules in your website or rooms so we do not access your kitchen after breakfast hours. In addition, is it a big deal to grab one Nutella spread when a guest is hungry in the middle of the night? If I were the owner or the manager, I wouldâve just given it to them and didnât even bother to tell them about rules if itâs going to help my guests for the night considering theyâre hungry and might need food. My priority is my guestsâ pleasant experience. The other reviews here are accurate, as if they were doing you a favour when staying here.
Breakfast is decent. Nothing really much to expect as it is the same breakfast items everyday. We stayed here for 5 days. This chalet is okay; however theyâre not something I highly recommend. Maybe check some other chalets or hotels in the area for a...
Read moreSo much is wrong with this place. I think people leaving 4 to 5 star reviews must have fallen off the amazing Lauterbrunnen waterfalls. It starts with the promis of parking availability, which is a paid parking. We met this woman asking about free parking upon arrival which was answered with "you see a lot of space over there (pointing towards paid parking)". The room was clean but except a mini-toblerone there was nothing. No hairdryer, water boiler, water bottle, not even tissues. Breakfast was a joke, literally. People entering the breakfast area are visibly thinking if they are supposed to eat air. My guess is that the owner is controlling and/or greedy and therefore doesnt want to give up full control over the service. On a counter there are coffee/tea (no coffee milk, on the table had fresh milk but everyone seemed to be slightly confused at first), cereals and pre-packed yoghurt. THAT WAS IT. Owner asked if you want white/brown bread (clearly not fresh, dried out). 4 slices of bread are given. Also asked if we'd like ham/cheese (2 slices each. Come on!?), and scrambled eggs (1-2 eggs). Like come on? I understand that because the owner is English, she would perhaps like to offer an English breakfast concept, but you'd ve thrown off the island if you'd come up with this poor breakfast. Add some sausages, beans, and bacon and royal portions if that is the concept. Overall much better places in the area for...
