Glacier Garden of Lucerne — Attraction in Lucerne

A canceled flight led to one of the most memorable parts of my trip to Switzerland. While trying to figure out what to do with the few hours we had in Lucerne, we stumbled upon the Glacier Garden of Lucerne. The Glacier Garden itself was a fantastic exhibit and a hidden gem of Lucerne. It offers a cool and historical view of how the earth has changed since the ice age. However, this is just a teaser of what was to come. Within the walls of the Glacier Garden is the mirror maze. The mirror maze is absolutely phenomenal. This is the best mirror maze I’ve ever done. The staff clearly take great care of this maze because I could not tell where the mirrors started and where the mirrors ended. We spent about an hour wandering and laughing our way through the maze only to come out in the same place that we went in. This maze is TOO good. Two adults visited the Glacier Garden in Lucerne on a Sunday in mid-May and really enjoyed ourselves. We spent about 4 hours there. Cost was 19 Swiss Francs each plus 2 Swiss Francs for a nice detailed guide in English with a discount from the Lucerne Visitor Card (free from most hotels). There is a lot to see at the Gardens, ranging from a mirror maze to a "cave" tour up inside the hill documenting the geologic ages since the glaciers were over Lucerne to the present. The cave tour lets you out on an alpine meadow re-creation that has fantastic views of Lucerne and the Alps. There is an easy walk back down to the Chalet museum, a 20 minute film with English subtitles and a special exhibit on Chalets (no English translations). Tolles Museum!

Angebotener Hot Dog ist leider eine komplette Enttäuschung.

Sowohl die alten wie auch die neuen Ausstellungen sind interessant und lehrreich. Im alten Museum ist man oft allein und kann sich ganz auf die Exponate konzentrieren.

Die Felsenwelt ist brachial, faszinierend und spannend aufgebaut -- besonders wenn man den Rundgang (wie ich heute) alleine begehen kann -- mit vielen eingebauten Überraschungen!

Spiegelsaal bzw. Spiegellabyrinth natürlich ein Klassiker, welcher seit Jahrzehnten immer wieder Spass macht.

Einzige Kritik: der angeblich beste Hot Dog von Luzern ist lediglich ein bestenfalls durchschnittlicher und viel zu teurer Hot Dog. Sogar der wirklich unterdurchschnittliche Hot Dog im Zoo Zürich kann da eigentlich locker mithalten (Würstchen viel besser; Brot auch nicht gut, aber auf eine andere Weise, weil einfach 08/15 Hot Dog Bun, Preis etwa die Hälfte).

Zum G&G Hot Dog: das Würstchen ist nicht wirklich knackig und hat eine viel zu dicke Haut sowie zu bissfestes Fleisch -- ein einfaches Wienerli aus dem Migros passt und schmeckt besser für einen guten Hot Dog das Silserli als Brötchen ist zwar auf den ersten Blick innovativ, passt aber geschmacklich nicht wirklich (ein Baguette- oder Ciabatta-artiges Brötchen passt um Längen besser zu einem Hot Dog, weil der ganze salzige Geschmack ja bereits von den Saucen und Zutaten und dem Würstchen kommt -- zusätzlicher Salzgeschmack vom Brötli ist leider geschmacklicher Overkill, auch wenn ich Laugengebäck eigentlich liebe) das zu kleine Silserbrötchen ist (auch weil aufgeschnitten) äusserst unpraktisch, weil man sich alles (von Mund bis Finger) beim Essen verkleckert das Cole Slaw Imitat (trocken geraffelte Rüebli und Weisskohl?) zuunterst im Hot Dog ist komplett unnötig (ausser man nähme wirklich Cole Slaw, sprich mit (genügend und entsprechender) Sauce) die Zwiebeln on top sind eigentlich auch eine gute Idee, ausser dass sie getrocknet -- und einfach so vom Detailhändler eingekauft -- sind: wenn man schon auf American style hot dog schielt, dann bitte frisch gedünstete "slow roasted" Zwiebeln nehmen. Die getrockneten Zwiebeln sind etwa so erregend wie getrocknete Peterli auf Salzkartoffeln. einziger lobenswerter Punkt: das Relish (Essiggurken-Gehack) schmeckt ganz ok und verleiht dem Dog etwas dringend benötigte Feuchtigkeit

Anyway, wirklich tolles Museum! Aber den Hotdog würde ich...
