Worst airport I've been to - will not be making the mistake of travelling via this airport again, especially not with young children. Arrived late Sunday night (due to a delayed flight)- in early January. Had to queue for over 2 hours, with exhausted and fed up young children and no pushchair, to get through passport control. The queue was unlike anything I'd ever seen, and there was only 4 security desks open (out of approximately 10).
When we finally got through we were hopeful and happy that was the worst of it - nope, they didn't have any of the luggage carousels labelled, so we didn't know where to find our cases. Most carousels weren't working - with cases piled high and abandoned on the floor around them. There were cases stacked high at the sides of the room, that looked like they had been there weeks. There was barely staff around to ask for help, those that were didn't know anything. The queue for the help desk was massive. I took my children and sat on the floor with them while my partner ran around like an angry headless chicken, trying to find where our luggage had been put. I accepted our fate of spending our holiday on the floor of the airport.
Eventually, my partner was lucky enough to overhear from someone at the front of the help desk queue, where the cases from our flight had been left! Hallelujah I thought when I see him coming towards me with cases, over an hour later. Alas, no, the pushchair is nowhere to be found. I'm ready to abandon it at this point, but my partner insists on one last headless chicken run, and by some miracle finds said pushchair abandoned with the weeks old stacks of luggage, along with another passenger from our flight's ski equipment.
I wish I could say this was the end of the experience - unfortunately our transfer mininvan couldn't find anywhere nearby to park for another 40minutes. Then we were charged an extra €100 for him having to wait so long for us to escape the place! I felt like crying and getting on the next flight home by this point, but that would mean staying at the airport even longer! Glad I didn't as we all had a wonderful holiday, albeit dreading the return journey. That didn't end up being quite as bad, but still not good! Had to trek to terminal 2 with cases and kids, to check in, then wait for a bus to take us back to terminal 1 (??!), which proceeded to drop us off at the bottom of some stairs with no lift available (we had 3 kids, pushchair and accompanying hand luggage), I asked the driver - to get rudely told - 'no lift, you go up!' We had to do this again after passport control.
Needless to say we were very happy to be escaping the airport for good on takeoff. I'm aware this is very first world problems, but it did put a dampener on what was meant to be a brilliant surprise 40th birthday trip for my other half. We don't go abroad often as can't afford to, this was only our second time away after having our youngest 2 children. Anyway, just thought I'd share our experience, with the hope of preventing anyone else with young kids, or otherwise, having to experience the mayhem. I'll...
Read moreWorst staff encountered on Emirates check in counter on my flight from Geneva to Dubai. I think that was discrimination. It made me change my mind of Swiss, on how good they are and they're country. But I guess they are French cause they are from Geneva, right? No wonder, French hospitality is really not nice when it comes to other nations, I encountered a really bad bad experience in a French restaurant too in Paris during my Europe trip, with tons of bad reviews on the restaurant too.
It's really true that whenever country you are, there are just really people who can't spread simple kindness and politeness to others. All the three on the check in counters except for the one talked about what happened.
I took a video on the counter, like a 2 seconds video. Then she asked me to delete it so I deleted and said sorry. After few seconds. She asked if I am using iPhone I said yes, and she said I should remove it from the deleted album and talked a lot that she doesn't want to be posted on social media and etc. With her eyes rolling, I should have deleted it nicely if she did not do that, my blood just went high cause she can't speak politely. She even asked her manager about it, and the manager told me that in Switzerland it's not allowed to take photos of someone without consent and if I dont take it down, they will call a police. Like what? Is that a big crime? I told her I am not posting her on social media and he talked a lot, felt discriminated cause I am Asian. Then when I deleted the manager asked me to move to another counter (not with the chubby girl who asked me to delete her photo / video)
Then after checking in, I thought everything was good. But suddenly, after the girl from another counter checked me in, she talked straightly without a pause with her eyes a bit rolling too, looking mad, saying next time I should not take photos like that, because it's illegal in Switzerland to take photos of employees or people that are working. And I said, I don't know that's why so next time I know. They should have say it politely instead of mocking me, saying my mistake repeatedly and even told me that they will bring a police if I did not take it down.
If the girl on the first counter just asked me politely to delete it from the deleted album too, do you think everything if that happened? NO.
I just don't know why other people can't be kind or be calm and patience even just for a second to save their day or other's people's day and peace of mind.
I am reporting this to Emirates.
It happened at around 6:02PM to 6:18PM basis was from the photos and videos taken between the deleted video of her and the...
