Matchbox Twenty!
Thanks to all the reviews posted by previous reviewers, we were quite prepared for the small size of the room, so we found this hotel a nice value for money in a great location. At the price we paid, it was a steal considering it was quite new and swanky and even came with a free breakfast! But I still need to call it out again - do be prepared for a super small room where you might not even have enough room for your luggage if you are travelling with big bags!
LOCATION: Great location near the night market and walkable from all key points of interest, including the Train station which was just a couple of kilometers away.
DINE + DRINK: The in house restaurant where you get Breakfast was not too bad and had a decent selection of local delicacies.
ROOM: I stayed in 205, so this review is based on that; VIEW: Lame view of another old building next to the hotel ; SIZE: Very small room; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part to put me to sleep; BATHROOM: Stand in shower; TOILETRIES: EXCELLENT Spa quality cosmetics that was a huge plus point for the hotel
FACILITIES:Be prepared to get into a pure Asian chill-out mode! As they neither have a gym or a pool! :-)
SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all my needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special Shout out to the front desk staff.
HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free high speed Wi-Fi that works well all over the property. Big Plasma TV screen dishing out dozens of channels spanning sports, news, music, movies and a wide variety of entertainment primarily in Chinese but also a few in...
Read moreStayed in the family room for 5 pax although there's only 4 of us because we wanted a bigger room. It's spacious with 2 queen size beds and 1 single bed. There are a 2-seater sofa in the room, a small cupboard to hang clothes just above the fridge and 2 bathrooms (only 1 toilet has shower and both bathrooms have heated toilet bowls). Room is very clean and well maintained. Although the sound proofing of the room is not very good but still manageable for a good night sleep as the streets are basically quiet after 10pm. The hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful. The Wifi is excellent and the room has sufficient sockets to charge your phones. The location is fantastic as it's just across the Dongdamen Night Market and just 10 mins walk from the main shopping streets at Zhonghua & Gongzheng Road, the morning market at Fuxing Street and the old railway road. You can easily take a cab to the train station for around NT 130-150 or bus near the night market. It is also close to popular cafes if you need to go out for coffee at night. There is no lift to the breakfast area which is on the basement by stairs. The breakfast not much of a variety but they serve the famous Gong Zheng Bao Zi for breakfast! They provide daily Chinese newspapers. They also have a coffee machine at the lobby where you can have free flow of coffee and ice which you can get at the basement for your free canned soft drinks provided in the fridge in your room. What they can improve on are to provide hair conditioner, a safe and hopefully the toilet doors can be locked. Overall we have a comfortable stay for 3...
Read moreGreat location, modern rooms, friendly staff
We were three of us staying in the Japanese theme quad rooms for two nights.
Rooms: While the room size was just about sufficient the amenities were great. Our room had low comfortable bedding which was perfect. The sitting area became our luggage storage. The toilet had a small bathtub with a Japanese style modern toilet seat. The Wi-Fi is free and fast, we even had a small balcony attached to the room.
Location: The hotel is situated two-three minutes’ walk away from the local night market, the main market street being another five minutes’ walk away.
Breakfast: Sufficient but not great, did feel it was limited for western taste but realized that is the case in most of the hotels in Taiwan (was the case with us for all our five hotels). They have the standard bread, butter, cereal flakes with cheese missing. There were about eight hot dishes but all of them were of Asian cuisine with about three to four of them being vegetarian. Just, I am not used to having noodles or dumplings for breakfast. They had a good coffee machine offering four-five standard varieties.
There is a 24/7 coffee/tea machine at the reception, we made use of it at nights while sitting in the hotel porch area.
Staff: Very friendly with a smile on their faces, helping us with direction and umbrellas. The ever-smiling face of the doorman always left us with a pleasant feeling.
Considering what we paid for the rooms, it...
