Very tasty Japanese Wagashi Sweets store. The owner studied it in Tokyo, Japan. Truly it serves the real taste of Japanese sweets. Most of ingredients that they use are imported from Japan and all sweets in the shop is made by hand from the beginning. The air/interior of shop refracts Japan-ish.
The shop name 'Mame' means 'bean' in Japanese and a common expression describes 'working diligently' included "Mame" sounds in it therefore they Do work hard! 'Wagashi' means Japanese sweets/confectionary.
Dango (sweet rice dumpling) has some flavor selections from Red bean, Haney lemon, Maccha, Kinako(powdered soybean), Sakura(cherry blossoms), Black sesame, and Mitarashi. A pancake filled with bean paste called Dorayaki is their advertising sweets‼ Basically 4 types of Dorayaki fillings you can choose from. Castella (sponge cake from originally Portuguese) has sweet honey flavors and keeps for long. Other authentic sweets: Maccha pudding, Mizu-yokan(bean jelly), Plum jelly, beautiful looking of seasonal Nerikiri (unbaked confectionary), colorful Higashi (dried confectionary) and regular ice cream + soft ice cream(Kinako&Maccha) and some more.
Free Japanese tea would be served when eat-in.
What good news about Mame is that almost sweets that you find here are good for vegetarian/vegan. Please confirm with the staff and they will tell you which.
They are now expecting the second shop nearby the night market & the pacific ocean in summer 2019. The concept would be different from the first shop so its better to keep...
Read moreA lovely place to have tea and a sweet snack with friends. The atmosphere is lovely and Japanese style, just like the menu.
Some rules to consider are that everyone must order a drink and that the time you can stay there is limited (I believe 90 minutes). While some of the desserts and drinks are pricey, there are affordable options. My drink and cake totalled 150 NTD. Of course, the environment is also part of the experience. We were seated in a private room (take off your shoes), which was perfect for the occasion.
The staff are ok, and service was fairly efficient. They are discrete and not pushy.
The environment is lovely, with lots of art and traditional designs. There is a shop connected to it, but it wasn't open when we visited. Otherwise, I would have bought some snacks to share with my friends. There's also a lovely back yard, which is worth checking out.
My friends, who have more exquisite tastes than me, were impressed by all of the drinks and especially the desserts. I had apple juice, which was very nice, and a honey cake (in my opinion fairly average). Based on my friends' reactions, I believe this is a place worth visiting if you...
Read moreIf you are a fan of delicate sweetness with authentic Japanese architecture, this is a place you should visit! ( Even it’s in Taiwan, not Japan)
I came here coincidentally while wandering around. I was attacked by the first impression, so I decided to give it a try. The result proved that the decision couldn’t be more right!
The most mind blowing part was that they recommended to have Sake, a kind of classic Japanese alcohol, with desserts. It was a perfect match!!!
I will definitely come here again when I visit Hualien, to try more sweetness...
