After Typhoon Kong-Rey passed, this was probably one of the most crowded day we’ve seen since. The day was sunny and beautiful. The crowds were out. The entire Tamsui waterfront was bustling with life!

Ticket prices for ferry from Tamsui to Bali Taipei costs 40NT per person per way (or ~$1.65 SGD). We actually bought the return tickets for 2 people that came up to 160NT. However, as we queued and reached the start of the queue, we noticed other locals actually tapping their EasyCard to pay for their ferry ticket from Tamsui to Bali – just like boarding the metro or bus in Taipei. Hence, this would probably be the better option if you’re doing the same day trip.

The boat ride from Tamsui to Bali took about 7 minutes and we love it that it was leisurely and comfortable. No sudden jerks. No high speed. No pounding unlike the Batam or Langkawi speed boats that we took. The ferry rides were full and there were elderly and kids as well. This is probably why the captain took extra care navigating across the Tamsui River as well...

Tamsui is a bustling riverside area that can be reached easily buy MRT or bus. Alternatively you can get there by going to Bali and taking the ferry across. This is the preferred option if you’re driving as the Bali is quieter and the parking is easier and cheaper. Both sides of the river offer a variety of street food and the chance to people watch. But the area in Tamsui is bigger with more to see. If you do take the ferry don’t be put off by the line. On the return journey the line was very long which really scared us, but because of the capacity of the boat we only waited...

Ferry ride from Tamsui to Bali and vice versa is one of the escapades you don't wanna miss out. The sunset and the sound of the sea makes me realize life's simple happiness and there's the beautiful view of the bay and Mt. Guanyin. After your ferry ride from Bali to Tamsui, it's nice to stroll along Tamsui's Old Street which has a bunch of stalls selling any famous local produce the area’s known for and lots of street foods plus some music from street artists.
