The Little South Gate (Chongxi Gate) — Attraction in Zhongzheng District

重熙門(小南門)1884年(1882起造)由清政府建造完成設計造型精美，可惜日據時期被日本人破壞，到回歸中國時始重新修復，雖不復原來風貌，至少標註這歷史古蹟的存在及史料。Auxlilary South Gate was built at 1884A.D. (starting from 1882 A.D.) by government of Chin Dynasty. It is an auxiliary gate in addition to 4 gates (east gate/west gate/south gate and north gate) surrounding the Taipei city. It is a conjunction of walls that guarding the city, unfortunately the gate was destroyed by Japanese while the colonial rule and the walls as well. The gate now remaining was rebuilt after returning Chinese rule, the original exquisite design was not maintained. However it plays important roll in marking the important historical site and the events...

It's not accessible since it's completely surrounded by a traffic circle intersection. The surroundings make it look extremely ugly and out of place, like some part of a museum that was left by the side of the road. If it's really so historical and special, why isn't it surrounded by a park so that everyone can enjoy it, rather than hack and cough from all the cars that are driving...

Like all the other revamped Taipei city gate (East, South), it's nowhere to get close to the thing since the roundabout it situated is not accessible for pedestrian. I guess these 3 gates could be named as the largest (and oldest) installation art of Taipei... What's the point of not opening it to public, a topic the government never seemed to be able...
