One of the great modern cathedrals of Scotland, modern meaning the Victorian age as opposed to mediaeval times. There is a stately earnest grandeur to this building that I highly admire. It arises from the grey sullen banks of the river Ness, with graceful towers and stained glass windows. It deliberately imitates the devotion and wonder of the old mediaeval cathedrals, as the gothic revival style so popular in the Victorian age tended to do, and the ambition is appreciated, even if it lacks the vibrant restless creativity of design that marks many of those great mediaeval cathedrals. In these wild lands of the distant north, this cathedral stands for the presence of order and continuity. It is a lovely building, constructed with genuine care, and its grounds exude such vibrant greenery, particularly in the summertime.
On a coach trip and parked alongside the cathedral. Spent a long time wandering around this impressive structure. There are even qr codes to scan to give you lots of information about the place. Well worth a visit, and there's a cafe adjoining the cathedral. Very nice lady on the information desk who gave us lots of information about the cathedral and where to visit in Inverness. Free to enter but donations for the upkeep are recommended.
I was told of the long term public car park available in this church by the reception staff of the hotel I was staying. Situated at the end of Ness Walk it is open 24 hrs and costs only £5 for 24 hrs. It even has facilities to charge your electric car. The church itself is magnificent both inside and out. If you want to park your car safely and for a reasonable price this is the place.
⛪One of the top Inverness landmarks with rich history and a scenic setting. Blooming trees only highlighted this architectural wonder's magnificence during our quick stop. 🅿️ Parking up front is limited so you might have to look for the space at the back. ☕ Based on online information, there's a cafe within the cathedral grounds
Open to the public again, the Cathedral is beautiful inside. Entry is free, though you can make a donation via cash or card for the upkeep. There are also toilets available at the rear of the building. It’s definitely worth visiting, especially if you are on the path down to the Ness Islands or the Botanic Gardens.
