My second visit in about 10 years & it was as interesting as the first if not better. Lots of items, information boards & variety of subjects to ponder over from local history. Look in the table drawers to read a few pages of a couple newspapers from 100 years ago, interesting reading matter from the format of the print to the news & adverts in it. Although disappointed they weren't from the Barnsley Chronicle. Some interactive stuff not interactive anymore but doesn't detract from the experience. Read moreCounter-intuitively closed during the peak holiday season, when schools are closed and young people are free, and therefore forbidding the general public coming from "far and wide" (ie other parts of the UK in this case) from experiencing and enjoying the Tutankhamun exhibition at the Barnsley Museum. This defeats the purpose of having such a high profile exhibition curated by the wonderful Prof Joann Fletcher to be enjoyed in such a location.

Local interest and history, archaeology, fashion, miners and coal, historical artefacts, inventions, military regalia and special exhibitions. Interesting calendar of events.
