I believe that churches are overlooked by the general public , who probably think they only go there for a specific reason. Time to change your mind set. They are fantastic and fascinating places full of history and facts and glorious architecture. St Mary's I believe is a hidden gem with lots of great features. You can visit the small crypt and 99% of the church , on my visit I was lucky that they were still displaying the Christmas theme and the Angel models ( see photos ) were amazing. The church attendant on duty (John) was very helpful and knowledgeable, he informed me that pilgrims of the past would start at this church on the Santiago de Compostela journey Children will love this church it has a Lewis Carroll search game , using a provided card with the Questions on you start your Journey around the church looking for the answers with clues to guide you ( did Mr Carroll visit this church ?) , our party of four over seventy years of age men returned briefly to our salad days and thoroughly enjoyed it. There was and is a Women through time display and was fascinating, as a man I believe that women are our equal, this display proves il. I won't describe the architecture ( both in and out ) you must go see for yourself, you will not be disappointed, Note the Remembrance Garden next door to this church is also worth a visit as is the...

I spent quite some time in there taking all that and the wonderful architecture in. Well...

The outside of the building is also beautiful although there appear to be a lot of restoration works going on at the moment so I'm not sure when it's open and when it isn't. There's also a little play room with toys and books in the crypt for any younger visitors! The hall next to the church also hosts a fantastic play group (Allsorts) on a Friday morning...
