A 3* review is usually a warning. It is, but not in a bad way if that makes sense. The food is good and the staff are friendly, so what's with the score. I think the easiest way of explaining it is that currently more of a cafe experience than a restaurant, but restaurant prices. Why? The downstairs table layout is limited due to the narrowness of the premises and the entrance is extremely drafty for anyone sat around the door! We had to book for 5.30pm on Saturday which is fine and whilst the restaurant was empty we were sat next to the door. We asked to move further into the restaurant which we were allowed to do and only a couple of other tables filled whilst we were in? The first thing we were told as we sat down was that we had to be off the table for 1855hrs. Everyone was given that info on arrival. We were told that 4 things were unavailable on the menu. My wife asked for one of her favourite dishes, vegetable pakora (rather than fish or meat pakora) which we couldn't see in the starter section. We were told it wasn't available but one of the waitress's popped into the kitchen and asked the chef and they did it.👍. Later I found it in vegan section on the menu! 🙈 We finished our nice starters and mains and discussed what we should have for dessert. We waited for a menu and we waited and 20 minutes later we actually collared one of the passing waitress's to be told that there were NO desserts tonight? We were then told the reason which explained the rather haphazard atmosphere and my score? They had just lost a chef and the manager! So will we go back? Yes to give it another chance to get their act together and settle down in several months time. I hope...
Read moreFood was very tasty and good value for money. Plenty of staff working very hard to serve people. We were served promptly. Seems like other new restaurants, they’ve had some unexpected teething problems, but it does look like they’ve worked hard/are working hard to address them. The, overall experience for us then seems to have improved on reviews that have gone before.
As others, we were sat near the door. I guess that’s where most restaurants would first place people because as it makes business sense. As soon as we mentioned that it was a little cold there , a good fan heater, already at the ready, was put on and quickly sorted the problem without bothering anyone.
Maybe some would consider this a step down from a fancy restaurant, but I did not think that it is ‘competing’ with others, rather brings something different to beverley. Bun Thai provides good authentic tasty, value for money food. I did not regard it as a ‘cafe’ as had been mentioned before, if I had to state anything, perhaps it has more a bistro type feel but that may be just down to its size. Be mindful that restaraunt has 2 floors, the latter only accessed by a spiral staircase. Big families and children in when we were there. Plenty of highchairs, toilets downstairs.
What would I improve? On food and value for money - nothing. Atmosphere - no issues. Perhaps service coming together a bit more so it is a little slicker might help, but I am sure the head of service will see to that as she seemed very capable. Staff were also all very willing.
Best measures are perhaps related to whether would we go again, and the answer is a resounding yes. We would also very...
Read moreBun has done an amazing job in cultivating an inviting and welcoming atmosphere! The food options are as good as any Thai restaurant I have been to.
I had the soft shell crab and the portions were very generous, the people with me ordered classic dishes such as Pad Thai and enjoyed them. The starters were great and you could tell the quality of the food was high. That being said, I didn’t get a wow factor with the food, it was nice and enjoyable but could be taken to the next level.
It was also a little disappointing to see very, very high beer prices and a lack of size options (330ml bottles rather than tap).
Overall a lovely meal and will be coming back for what I’m sure will be an even better...
