Visited for an anniversary meal with my wife last night after a recommendation from a friend, and I can guarantee there will be a return trip in the future, partly so our kids can try the food here.
Speaking of food, I have literally nothing bad to say about our visit - portion sizes were generous and the menu had so many good things on it I ended up taking the easy option and picked an office workers tiffin box. This gave me three amazing curries (house chicken, a lentil Dahl and a ginger chicken - but those might not be the right names!) chosen by the kitchen (again, helpful for the indecisive) and a portion of rice. The curries I tried were packed with flavour and had a well balanced level of spice that didn't overpower any other ingredients.
I would have been pretty full just from these but we also shared an incredible cheese on toast with lime pickle that occupies a spot in my mind with my mum's Welsh rarebit.
My wife took a staff recommendation and had the monkey wrap which was packed with flavour thanks to the amazing house chutneys and some beautifully tender chicken cooked tandoor style.
We finished up by sharing a brownie which was well balanced - rich but not sickly, and through the course of the evening sampled a mango soda mocktail and an espresso martini.
Staff were attentive but not overbearing, and super friendly, helping us navigate the menu and avoid over ordering on food, though we could see other customers filling takeaway boxes at the end of their meals and staff encourage this too.
The only negative I could put into this review is that if you're looking for a romantic meal, this perhaps isn't ideal as it's designed as a busy, street food style restaurant. As such tables are fairly close together and though I wouldn't say it was loud, it doesn't really class as an "intimate" setting.
Other than that, this is absolutely somewhere we would return to and highly recommend.
P.s. Failed to take any photos, as I was too busy enjoying my food...
Read moreI'm a restaurant expert (not) and this is my view on Mowgli. First and foremost this is not a typical Indian restaurant! It's more of an experience of an exotic food kind in a fabulous and quite different setting with great service. Swing chairs are definitely a first. A good job they're chained down as I was swinging on mine by the end of the meal! 😂 We all have our favourite Indian dish and when you go to an Indian restaurant you are probably like me and we have the same dish, so the only difference depends on that restaurants interpretation? Not here in Mowgli! It's probably easier to describe it as a taster menu where the more dishes you taste, the more you want to try. The dishes, while not large (as there's no need for them to be), are quite exceptional in mouth tingling flavour. I have not been this excited about a restaurant in a long time and I have been to some nice places? Honestly I could have just kept eating and eating the dishes. OMG! 😂 As other reviews have mentioned, don't order everything at once as it may all come at once and then it may go cold while you are eating? Yogurt Chat bombs! Awesome 💣 Gunpowder chicken, Mowgli sticky chicken and then Mother butter chicken. We're just want more! Roti breads and a rice. A nice bottle of house white and finished by sharing a fabulous brownie that we shared. (Less than £80 including the auto added 10% tip and a £1 donation to Mowgli's charity) There are not many places that I can honestly say that I cannot wait to return to try more of those dishes. A restaurant Beverley can be pleased to brag...
Read moreI had been so excited to go here for such a long time and was really disappointed to be honest.
The food was nicely presented but wasn't hot, it was fairly tasty but I think as we had booked late, we were the last table of the day, so perhaps lacked the love and experience normally would have had. I would definitely go back bexause I'm certain it's better but this time it just wasnt great.
Wine selection was fairly good and we had a nice bottle, which was nicely chilled and good value.
The menu was explained efficiently, but from the start, the service felt a bit stern and rushed and at one point our waitress said "I'm not trying to get rid of you" but that's not how it felt (we had an 8.30 arrival and think it was frustrating that we maybe delayed close, and in fact we were the last to leave and it was like the Mary Celeste, there was no one in the restaurant to make sure we had left...we could hear activity in the kitchen but nobody on the floor.
I'm never keen to leave average reviews, but there were chances for this experience to have been so much better and I didn't leave feeling good, which is how you should
I think if the food had been warmer it would be better, I didn't feel in a place to offer feedback there and then as I say the service felt a little unfriendly for some reason, my friend and I wondered what we had done 🤣
The atmosphere was fine and everyone seemed to be having a good time around us, so I do think it was just our experience at arriving for the...
