Outstanding festival - a must for any beer lover!
As a German beer enthusiast, (❤️ 🍺 🇩🇪)
I've been attending the Cambridge Beer Festival for several years now, and it never disappoints. This annual event on Jesus Green is simply brilliant.
What strikes me most is the incredible variety - over 200 ales, bitters, and ciders from breweries across Britain. Coming from Germany's lager tradition, I'm always amazed by the creativity of British brewing. Last year I discovered an amazing elderflower cider that's become a firm favorite.
The atmosphere is fantastic - relaxed and friendly, with passionate volunteers who really know their stuff. Unlike some commercial festivals back home, this feels genuine and community-focused. You'll find yourself chatting with fellow beer lovers, sharing recommendations, and trying styles you've never heard of.
The setting by the River Cam is perfect, especially on a sunny afternoon. Prices are reasonable, organization is spot-on, and there's always live music to enjoy between tastings.
The small independent breweries are the real highlight for me. Where else can you chat directly with the brewers about their latest experiments? I've tried some incredible barrel-aged stouts and hoppy IPAs that you simply can't find elsewhere.
If you're serious about beer, put this festival on your calendar. It's become an essential part of my summer, and I'm already looking forward to next year's edition. Cheers! 🍻 See you soon dear Michi...
Read moreSuper swimming facility, well maintained, clean, friendly and possibly the best value family attraction in Cambridge. Located next to the river (in the past, it was fed with water from the nearby weir, but is now filled with filtered water) at the edge of a beautiful tree-filled park, the lido is probably the longest swimming pool in the east of England. The ends of the pool are shallow (around waist deep) whereas the centre is deep. Plenty of sheltered lawn areas to spread out your rugs and have a picnic - there's also a well priced café selling hot/cold drinks, toasties and other simple snacks and ice-creams. Although the water is heated, I would recommend a wet-suit for children. The staff were vigilant, but also accommodating - we were allowed to throw a beachball around. There's so much space there is no chance you could get in anyone's way. The changing rooms and toilets are being revamped, but were adequate for us. The setting is wonderful, the facility...
Read moreIn a town filled with good green spaces Jesus Green stands out as one of Cambridge's finest and oldest. There is a lot to see here. When in town you can turn alongside the River Cam at Magdalene Bridge and walk down the Quayside board walk taking in the punting to Jesus Green. You can keep on walking along the river taking in the lock and sights of the local narrow boating community. You will come to one of best outdoor lidos in the country which understandably is open seasonally. Also beside the river is the Fort St George pub which is a nice place to enjoy a pint albeit a little pricey. On the green there is a recently refurbished children's play area with pirate ship, aaarrrgh. Jesus Green is a great reprieve from the bustle of the streets for those that like some quick space, and it is very...
