A great evening out ā›³ļø #minigolf #cambridge #activityideas #eveningvibes

Celebrated my 20th birthday at The Tivoli with a group of 33 guests. Staff were very helpful (although with large group bookings you must pre-order online) and let us arrive early to set everything up. We were seated on the Rooftop Terrace but there was heating + retractable roof, so we basically spent the night indoors - luckily none of my guests felt cold. They were all impressed by how pretty this place is, many have not even heard of this pub. We reserved 4 tables, and the staff were very kind to let us occupy 2 extra tables for hosting board games. With regards to prices, the pizzas are a shout since each pizza was so big it could be shared among 2-3 people. We ended up spending around £370 for a group of 30+ people (excluding the price of drinks for which you pay extra if you want it). Atmosphere was fantastic, perfect way to celebrate entering my 20s would definitely recommend and come back again!

We popped in late afternoon with our two young children to meet a couple of friends. We ate, my chicken burger was very disappointing, they used to have steak and honour which was great, not a fan of caddy shack based on that chicken burger. The consensus was the pizza was ok, American style, big, generous with the cheese and sauce but not very refined, dough wasn't great. You get a buzzer and pick up your own food and get drinks from the bar. I did see a table laid though so perhaps bookings get service. They don't really do cask ales but some nice lagers and their own pale ale is on tap. The stand out features are the games (shuffle board, crazy golf on another floor) and also the roof terrace and views of the Cam river. That makes the pub special and is probably why a lot of beers are £7. No doubt I'll be back with the kids to grab a drink and play some crazy golf. I also like the shabby chic decour.

Horrendous Experience at Tivoli

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Visiting Tivoli was easily one of the worst experiences I've had at any entertainment venue. Here's a breakdown of the myriad issues that plagued our night:

  1. Disgusting Cleanliness: The bar was filthy. Tables were sticky, and there were spills and trash everywhere. The bathrooms were a nightmare — think of a gas station restroom on a busy highway, but worse. No one seemed to care about cleanliness or hygiene.

  2. Incompetent Staff: The staff were shockingly rude and inattentive. It took forever to get our drinks, and when they finally arrived, they were either the wrong order or poorly made. Getting their attention felt like pulling teeth. Their indifference and lack of basic customer service skills were astounding.

  3. Overpriced and Undercooked Food: The food was ridiculously overpriced for what it was. My burger was practically raw in the middle, and the fries were soggy and cold. We sent it back, only for the replacement to be just as bad. Clearly, the kitchen staff had no idea what they were doing.

  4. Run-Down Mini Golf Course: The mini golf course was an utter joke. The holes were unimaginative, the turf was torn and stained, and the props were either broken or outdated. It felt like playing in someone's neglected backyard. To top it off, the equipment was in terrible condition — our putters were bent and the balls were chipped.

  5. Deafening Noise: The noise level was unbearable. The music was blasting so loudly we couldn't hear each other speak, and the acoustics of the place made everything echo horribly. It was more like a chaotic nightclub than a fun mini golf bar.

  6. Crowded and Uncomfortable: Despite the poor quality, the place was overcrowded, making it impossible to enjoy the game. There was barely any space to move around, and we constantly had people bumping into us. It felt like they were packing people in just to make a quick buck, with no regard for comfort or safety.

  7. Poor Value for Money: For the exorbitant prices, you get nothing but frustration and disappointment. We left feeling completely ripped off and swore never to return.

In summary, Tivoli is a total disaster. Save your time, money, and sanity by avoiding this place at all costs. There are plenty of other venues where you can enjoy a night out without enduring this...

Staff attitude is horrendous! Booked to take my two girls after work as been many times before and they enjoyed it. Turned up and the sign said to check in at bar. On rocking up at the bar I was met by a young lady straight on the attack about no under 18’s. I explained we were booked for golf and was met by her straight on the laptop to showing me T&C’s on my booking confirmation stating ā€œno under 18’s past 5pmā€. I tried explaining that I had been before etc and she would have absolutely non of it and was just blunt and very rude. She explained they had to put a 5pm rule in place as they had so many ā€œout of control stag groupsā€ in there. I said fine can I just have a refund and she said I couldn’t as I hadn’t cancelled within 24 hours! I explained I wouldn’t have cancelled and still be stood in front of her but again just rude. She offered me to re book any time before 5pm mon-Fri which I said I can’t do because of work of which she replied ā€œwell that’s not my problemā€. I tried explaining to her again that I couldn’t do before 5pm Mon - Fri with my kids of which she replied ā€œthat’s why I don’t have kidsā€ right in-front of my children. She then closed her laptop and made it very clear she wasn’t willing to help or come to any other arrangement. I walked out with my two girls asked me to promise I never take them in there again because of her. Absolutely gutted as was looking forward to a great night with my girls and the staff member car crashed it for us.

**update: Ben messaged me the following day by email followed by a phone call. He apologised about the issue and has taken steps to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Credit to them for taking on board so quickly the issue and listening to my point. He put forward a plan to smooth things over which I have excepted and hope to revisit in the near future and hope it was just a one off which I am sure it was. Credit to them for wanting to put things right and not just...

We had a very disappointing experience at the Tivoli for a very special birthday. I booked husbands 40th here and were told I was booking a private room and a ā€˜outdoor terrace’. I urge you to go and view the venue first. The outdoor terrace is actually a square of fake grass on the roof above the private room. Well.. I say private but all of the many members of the public who kept walking into our party from the terrace which was directly flowing from our hired room was open to the public with no real divide. People ate our food and came in and danced to our DJ who ended up giving up playing as the bar staff kept on repeatedly turning down the speakers. We had a singer, myself and our friends and family were having such a lovely time listening to him when the manager came over to say he needed to turn down - he also ended up stopping his set and giving up. The food was nice enough but the pizza was cut into very odd shapes and seemed to go quickly. I ordered more than what was pre-ordered but.. maybe we just had greedy guests? The most disappointing part was that we specifically asked for chicken burgers instead of beef as many guests didn’t eat beef. They did the whole lot of burgers as beef when I pointed out their error as people ā€˜even the birthday boy doesn’t eat beef’ my husband was brought 2 chicken sliders on a tray an hour after the food had been taken out. I seriously do not recommend hosting a party or event at this venue. They managed to ruin what should have been a really special occasion of which people had traveled far from and booked hotels for. It was...
