We went to this pub with a lot of friends, four of us went to order some drink at the bar together. I made my order first, and the lady at the bar was asking for my ID, which I didn’t bring with me, so I said sorry, and allowed my friend to make the order. Then, my friend made his order and showed his ID to the lady. She refused to take his order as she thought we were together. I could still accept that (although not very happy) so we just went back to our seat with our friends. Then the lady came out and saw us at the table and asked us to leave! So ridiculous! I do understand that I might not be allowed to order alcohol if I look young and don’t have my ID with me, but I don’t think it was reasonable to ask us to leave just because I did not bring my ID! Also, the four of us were not white (2 of us are Asian and 2 of us are from the Middle East), so they only asked the four of us to leave but allowed all the others who are European and white to stay! So ridiculous!! I strongly believe she was also trying to cover this up by saying “sorry this is the rule” at the end when we did decide to leave without arguing with her. The whole thing was so ridiculous! I would not recommend this place, perhaps especially for people who are not white…

Now the owner has replied, so I would like to add a bit more details. We were totally fine with the fact that we were not allowed to order alcohol as I did not bring my ID and I look young. I made this clear in my original comment. The thing that made me unhappy was that we were asked to leave when the lady finally saw us on the table with our friends! On your own website you said that you were “family friendly” and “accessible to all ages”, but you asked us to leave just because I did not bring my ID (and I am actually already 24)! Additionally, the other three of us who went to the bar together with me were also asked to leave despite the fact that they even had their ID with them! The lady was also quite rude to us in my opinion. She eventually did say sorry to us but she did not look sorry at all. Really bad experience that finally we were required to leave early and part with our friends. I also highly suspect that the lady was (at least a little bit) racist as she only asked the four of us who are not...

We visited this pub on Sunday 3rd July for a roast lunch. It's in a good location and has an interesting history. The food was a mixed bag - great Yorkshire puddings, but the vegetables were just boiled and the cauliflower cheese was just one large uncooked floret with a few strands of cheese on top. The main issue was one particular staff member, a young waitress with black hair. I had ordered an apple pie for dessert which the menu advised would be served hot. When it arrived it was cold. I would have eaten it anyway, but it turned out that there were bits that were still frozen on the inside. I took it back to this waitress and asked for it to be heated up, apologising for the inconvenience. She did not say anything, just took it away. After that I went off to the bar and my husband overheard her rudely questioning why I'd eaten some of the pie if it was cold - but how else did she expect me to find out that it was cold? After I returned from the bar she bought back a different piece of pie that was about half the size of the original piece. I thanked her very much and she silently put the pie on the table and walked away. Later on we heard her talking rudely and swearing about other customers. Not a good ambassador for the pub, we would not go there again if she...

Great location and dog friendly. Unfortunately our experience was less than adequate. Food arrived fairly quickly but the starter and mains came all together. When we asked the server could he take the burger away to keep warm he said no everything comes together :sausage and mash coming. I wondered aloud why call it a starter then but he just looked and repeated it all comes together. The nachos were freezing and the salsa was sweet and sickly. Couldn't really find the cheese. The burger was tasteless and dry on a stale bun. Fries were good. The sausage and mash was edible although nothing fresh about any of it. A Brakes brothers special. Guinness was good and well poured although very cold. Unusually for us we complained and was met with the comment that we had to excuse the server because he was young and that serving nachos freezing cold was how they did it there. The manager did refund the food so credit for that. So if you go take the cheap 2 meals for 12.99 deal as that's all it worth. Or else go for the location the beer and the atmosphere and save eating for...

I still can’t get over how large this pub is, with a sizeable indoor dining area and so many tables outside in different areas. The prize location for me though are the few tables on the bank of the river. It’s a great spot watching the boats pass by and although there’s lots of walkers and cyclists too they never seemed bothersome. Service inside was fast and friendly with all the areas appearing clean and well kept. The food menu has a decent enough range for the weekend although a few more smaller dishes, such as sandwiches, wouldn’t go amiss. Service of main meals was quick though, especially considering how busy the place was, and the quality pretty good. The scampi and chips was a sizeable portion and despite not coming with the option of mushy or garden peas was very tasty. Sauces are in bottles but the staff were good at checking everything was alright, so if you need additional items they’re easy to obtain. Overall it’s a great relaxing spot in a prime location. Prices were as you’d expect and I would happily return again, either for drinks or a meal.

Pleasant venue by the water - though note that not all of the tables have a water view. We had a veggie Sunday roast, a lamb Sunday roast and a chicken starter platter (intended for 2 people - pictured). Overall quite happy with the food with just a few niggles - the chips were not rosemary salted as proclaimed by the menu and we had not consented to having ordinary chips instead; the lamb itself was small and chewy; and the Yorkshire puddings were hard as old boots. But the veg, chicken and gravy were all pleasant. On service, we were seen promptly enough at the bar despite it being a busy Sunday lunchtime, though we were not all served our food at the same time (I know one was a starter, but we did ask for it all to come out at the same time) which is obviously a little antisocial, items were not cleared for us and one bar worker had a hacking cough which made us a little uncomfortable. Prices were ok given the location, brightness of the interior, avoidance of crowding.

A beautiful sunny day, lots of customers inside and out, this didn't phase the staff, letting us know there is a delay on ordering food, this was perfectly understandable. The access to the disabled toilet/baby changing facilities was difficult, storage of unknown items, plus a flood, that appears to come from the out of order toilet next-door- the member of staff was so helpful in making the disabled toilet facilities useable. I was impressed and grateful of the help and assistance given by the team member. We enjoyed our lunch, chicken and bacon baguette. We continued to enjoy the garden, cold drinks, met with fellow photography buddies. Continued with looking at Mindful Photography.
