Edinburgh Castle is full of history so do other things sitting inside Castle boundary and Mons Meg is one of them. Mons Meg is a cannon with 50cm diameter barrel which can smash castle walls. It’s one of the largest cannon in the world. French Duke of Burgundy ordered this cannon in 1449. Its an impressive piece of history. This massive medieval cannon is fascinating and the information provided about its history and use is very interesting. It arrived 1457 to Scotland as a gift to James II wedding. This area in castle always crowded quickly so make your move and get some pics as well as...

Visit this place at least once in your life. The original structures are SOOO old, and rebuilt over the centuries to become more fortified. Pivotal in English and Scottish history. I like that you can learn about the eras of history you are interested in. You're not just spoon fed a YouTuber's interpretation, but are offered options. It's up to you what you choose to pursue, and it's up to you to use the abundant resources to learn about the amazing history and events that...

A great half day visit plan your trip on a dry day unlike me. And make sure you are there for the one o'clock gun. The state rooms are richly decorated. The prisoner of war display was good. So was the national war mussium, although at the moment you will have to join a line to get in. I got soaked but it was worth it. Sadly on the day I visited the Scots guards mussium was closed. At present you must book on line before your visit. But if you get the chance...

Fantastic historic medieval bombard. Built in 1449 on the orders of Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy and sent by him as a gift to James II, King of Scots in 1454. Mons Meg was employed in sieges until the middle of the 16th century, after which it was only fired on ceremonial occasions. Mons Meg has a barrel diameter of 20 inches (510 mm) making it one of the largest cannons in the world by calibre.

Mons Meg at Edinburgh Castle is an impressive piece of history. This massive medieval cannon is fascinating to see up close, and the information provided about its history and use is very interesting. The only downside is that it can get crowded around the area, but it's definitely worth a visit. Overall, Mons Meg is a highlight of the castle and a must-see for history enthusiasts.

" Mons Meg, with her 20 inch (50 cm) with wide barrel, was built to smash castle walls. The French Duke of Burgundy paid the gunsmith Jehan Cambier to make the gun in 1449. The barrel was formed from iron rods bount together with 37 white - hot iron hoops that were hammered into position " In 1457 Mons Meg arrived in Scotland as a 🎁 to ( wedding ) James ll.
