Created especially for the summer social scene, the new ‘Magnum Summer Terrace’ at Cold Town House (rooftop and on the Grassmarket) is offering people the chance to drink in some of the best views of Edinburgh Castle. This isn't your average rooftop experience. Perched atop the bustling pub, The Magnum Terrace offers a unique perspective of the city. While Edinburgh Castle takes centre stage, the sprawling panorama of the Grassmarket and the surrounding streets unfolds beneath you, creating a captivating scene.

We sampled the Banana Colada and the Strawberries n Cream. Both where thick, smooth and quite luscious with the Banana Colada coming out tops for me.
The Cold Town House offers a menu item called "hanging grills," which is a unique and flavourful way to enjoy your meal - think vertical kebab!
Get ready for a double wow! Both the Steak and Peppercorn and the Chicken Tikka are Instagram-worthy thanks to a built-in sauce dispenser. Pour your sauce into the top, and watch it sizzle and drip down, perfectly coating your succulent kebab. Don't forget the halloumi fries – thick-cut and...

Upon arrival we were greeted by no one. There was a sign asking us to wait to be seated. We waited and still no seats! So as we stared into an empty bar we took some initiative and headed up to the roof terrace. Once reaching the top of the stairs we were once again greeted by no one so we waited a moment and took one of the many empty tables, on this quiet Tuesday night.
A pleasant, smiley waitress attended our table to take our order. We gave our order and I thought to mention that no one had guided us and we had seated ourselves here, just to make sure the table wasn’t booked.
What I was met with was completely unexpected. The blonde waitress changed her tune, aggressively and sarcastically asked me if there was not sign asking us to wait. To which I repeated that we had waited some time and no one came so we thought we would walk up to save someone a job. She reiterated in an even more sarcastic tone that the sign was there in the event that a member of staff wasn’t there. She then proceeded to condescend and belittle our actions to walk up a set of stairs unannounced. Further to this she began to educate us on how busy the bar is at other times of the week. After taking our order, the waitress then asked for our IDs to prove our age. As a Scot myself I know that the licensing laws regarding ID is that anyone under 18 can not be on the premises at the time we were there. However she only attempted to ID the three of our party who ordered alcoholic drinks and proceeded. This made the ID process feel like a petty attempt to undermine our party and belittle us once again.
We live very locally to Cold Town and my partner enjoys their beer. But l can comfortably say we have no intention of attending the Cold Town Bar or consuming their products.
Once again an utter...
Read moreVery frustrating visit really - I’ve been many times before, written great reviews and today it just let me down. I was visiting with a friend and arrived slightly early for my table at 18:30. I was seated while waiting for said friend.
We had our orders taken after he arrived - two cocktails and two pizzas, with a side of fries. 20 minutes passed before we were given our cocktails and a further 15 before food arrived - cold. I went to our waiter with a chip to show her, she took it off me and said she was sorry it had arrived like that - and she’d get the manager. He promptly arrived apologising, offered us a round of drinks and a discount on our meal, with a replacement. We agreed, however our initial food was left on the table - was this a test?
Our replacement cocktails arrived shortly after and after another ten minutes our new meals arrived red hot - however without a side of fries and the original ones just sat there. Our food was good this time round. We asked for the bill, and were charged full price for our mains and fries, and our cocktails however the second round wasn’t on there. The waitress came running over and apologised as they promised ‘they’d do something for our table’ and she quickly returned again - after removing the DISCRETIONARY service charge. Why did the manager promise a discount if that was all that was to be removed?
Quite wish we’d have went somewhere else, as this was a quick catch up over some food and it all just felt a bit depressing. I don’t think I’ll be back as I...
