I have edited this review off the back of returning to Maison de Moggy after 2 years. Sadly it's gone from an outstanding five stars to a disappointing two stars. I've left the previous Review below this one as a reminder of what made this cafe great previously. The main factor for the lower score was the staff. Upon arriving at the cafe we had two rude American ladies barge their way in front of us into the cafe (to these two people, you also contributed to a horrid visit by practically harassing those poor cats), now I'm not sure if this triggered the gentleman working there but we were then greeted by a male member of staff who gave a list of house rule etc. but in a way that had no feel and was clearly a "script", didn't ask us if we had any questions or anything, it was lucky we had been before and knew how the cafe worked. He wasn't very happy throughout and just seemed to be on the phone the whole time. The young lady in and out of the kitchen was very good, sadly she was not there enough otherwise this review could've been different as she clearly loves her job. The gentleman was so moody and just didn't seem to like being there. We didn't feel welcome and even the cats seemed a bit off this time compared to our previous visit. We couldn't wait to get out of the cafe as we felt so unwelcome by this gentleman, what a terrible atmosphere. I can't say I'll ever return again to this cafe after this experience, what a shame. A side note however, the cats were stunning.
Previous Review - 2 Years Ago - Wow! Absolutely loved our visit to the famous cat cafe. Super friendly staff who clearly love these beautiful cats! The cats were stunning, Coco was by far my favourite, I fell in love! The hour session flew by but was such a relaxing and enjoyable experience. To top it all off, the coffee was delicious as well! I would highly recommend this place for all...
Read moreDO NOT COME HERE- ABUSE, DRUGGING THE CATS. (They arenât âsleepyâ theyâre sedated)
As someone who works with animals for the past 8+ years I was blown away by the magnitude of neglect and abuse that this so called âcat cafeâ puts on for money. As someone who is from America, I have worked with over 1,000+ cats, both bred and rescued but have never seen ANY cats in the manner that these cats were in. As I walked in, I asked the manager if these cats were adopted, as many other cat cafes are, to promote the idea of rescuing animals and giving them a better life⊠to which she replied âno, these are the ownerâs petsâ (in a very condescending way to belittle rescued animals over bought). From that second, I was already thrown off, but nevertheless I wanted to play with the kitties and enjoy my time. As I approached the first cat, not a single movement came from them as I pet them, in the moment i thought they must have just been tired. I then went to the next cat who had their face inches away from a computer screen, i reached my hand out and not a single movement from the cat. No sniffing, no ear movement, no eye movement. I monitored their behavior to see that they were clearly lethargic and under immense stress but were sedated to where they had low energy and no appeal to anyone around them. Every cat that I went up to had the same responses.
It genuinely hurts my heart to see that these âpetsâ are nothing more than a profit. What a shameful place, and how dare the owners who claim these animals as their âpetsâ exploit them and drug them for money. If you are a cat lover, let alone an animal lover, then DO...
Read moreedit response to owner - understandable you would prefer I didn't leave a review. However as a paying customer I am within my rights to describe the experience I had.
I wouldn't recommend this place. We arrived 2 minutes before our booking, only to have the door closed and locked in our faces while the member of staff was talking to another customer. It was snowing outside, and we were astonished by this rudeness. When we got in we were shepherded from place to place and bombarded with instructions as if we were children. The girl then stood around on her phone and I had to fetch her from the kitchen when we wanted to pay and leave. I don't know why you would employ staff like this. The cats seemed contented enough but somehow the whole experience left me cold - parading pedigree animals as if they are a circus exhibit. I've been to a cat cafe before where the animals were rescued and available for adoption, the atmosphere was much nicer. A note to the manager if you are reading this - when you are recruiting staff, choose them based on their ability and professionalism - there is no need to employ jumped-up vet students with no idea how to treat paying customers. The tea and cake was good, but we left feeling as if we had wasted the ÂŁ8 each we...
