I feel conflicted writing this as I adore this business but I have some complaints. It's the only place worth going for a night out in Colchester. The live music is always phenomenal, they always manage to get the most amazing vocalists for Facedown. There's a wide variety of activities offered every night, truly something for everyone. Punk, ska, jazz, metal, rock, pop, indie and open mic nights are available. And I have to say the venue theme is beautifully done. But too many times I have had a negative experience here. And it's nothing to do with the staff or the business itself but rather the people who go there. I have had hate speech and slurs yelled at me and my boyfriend at the bar. On punk night, the mosh pit got so ridiculously dangerous and one man pulled my friend at the time's necklace right off their neck. The staff only stepped in after this had already happened but not before when they should have seen it becoming dangerous. Not to mention the countless times I have been groped or harassed there. It doesn't feel like a safe space anymore for me and my friends. I say this because I believe that there can be improvements made, it was a safe space before and it can be again. Please train staff to spot these things before they occur and for bouncers to actively escort people off the premises who are promoting hate...
Read moreCoda was my favorite place to go and I was a regular until last night, thought I'd take my friend that is not from Colchester to coda to see the band and have a good time. Unfortunately our night was ruined and cut off early due to a very disrespectful man who continuously shoved my friend into the front bar of the stage and then when she pushed back for some space he aggressively elbowed into her back and proceeded to turn around and verbally abuse her. Now we both know this isn't the places fault but when bouncers were told and my friend was in tears Infront of them they just said 'we will keep an eye on him' but we had to cut our night short and leave because of such a disrespectful man which was definitely double our age. We felt let down by the bouncers and that he got away with his abusing behaviour and our night was ruined because of it. However like I said was once my favorite place to go but won't be returning for a while with the lack of support...
Read moreI had the absolute worst experience at this venue. I started my Friday night with friends, enjoying the music, and then my phone got stolen. When I asked a staff member for help, I was accused of taking drugs and completely ignored when I needed help the most. It was incredibly offensive, especially after spending my time and money there. I asked to talk to the manager multiple times, and finally, a young lady came to help me look for my phone. While I'm grateful for her help, the attitude of the other staff member was so rude and unkind that I will never...
