A beautiful (closed) station building is where this car park is situated, a five minute walk away from Bakewell centre. This car park is mainly attractive to walkers as it is a long stay car park and is right on the Mondale Trail and also the start of many fine walks. The easiest way of paying is by app- it says £6 a day, but then they add on handling fees, but that’s a rant, not a review. Bear in mind that although the car park is only a five minute walk away from the town centre, your walk back will take longer as it is up a fairly steep road. Go easy on the Bakewell pudding to speed up a bit on the return journey...

A good easy footpath which provides an enjoyable walk, cycle or run. Word of warning - if you plan to complete the footpath to "topley pike" with the intention of heading to Buxton - avoid. On the trail completion there is just a car park in the middle of nowhere. The main road to Buxton has no footpaths and is not safe to walk on. There is a continued footpath near a quarry which is terrible and overgrown and heads in the wrong direction for Buxton. There are bus stops which cater for a very limited bus service (2 hours...

Arrived here at 10.30am and parked in the appropriate place , I actually parked where it said small cars only cost £5.50 for all day which was reasonable as I knew it would be safe...only to to arrive back at my vehicle at 3pm to see Some T%AT had not followed rules and decided to park on the grass across my vehicle in a none parking space blocking myself and 2 others in! Will never park in this carpark again because nothing was done about the BMW Pr%!K owner that just thought sod everyone else I'm parking...

The car park review: To park here you need cash!! The car park was basically empty on a Saturday, probably because you need cash. We parked on the road for free. Seems they should either get card readers, use an app or just make it free! The trail review: The Monsal trail itself is pretty good. Very busy and muddy. We left the trail much earlier than planned, just after Hassop, and looped back across the field path and into town. So it was good to have a loop but would have liked to have walked along it more.

What an awesome trail! It took us almost 4hrs to do the whole thing on foot. We parked jn Bakewell and got a cab to Wyedale Car Park on the A6 to do the whole trail. It’s really lovely. Very easy going as totally flat the whole way. About 1hr in there are some toilets and again about 1 mile from Bakewell. Both places have cafes too. Gorgeous views all round, highly recommended for a lovely, long walk.
