I visited Woodhall Spa with some golfing friends a couple of months ago. The scenery is great and it's a very challenging course kept in good condition.

However, when we were in the pro shop before the round, it wasn't properly explained to us that we need to use mats off the fairway. 4 or 5 holes in we had the same pro (Nikita I believe) who served us in the shop drive up to us to have a moan about the fact we weren't using mats. He told us that he had had 4 or 5 calls from the group behind us reporting it. We said that no one had explained this to us, and he told us that we would have been told in the pro shop. However he was the same person who served us and he didn't say anything. He didn't accept accountability and gave us some mats and told us there's a pro behind us who will be keeping a close eye. The group behind us caught up a couple of holes later and told us they didn't snitch. The Lady pro in the group was very kind and encouraged us to just enjoy the course and assured us that no one in her group snitched. So we let them play through and we continued.

For a few holes after we had different person (green keeper perhaps) follow us around the course in a golf cart and hiding between the trees. One player in our group played a bunker shot and the guy in the cart hurried up to him, grabbed the rake and said that there has been multiple complaints that we are not raking the bunkers. This was nonsense, we make a point of leaving the bunkers better than we found them. Day ruined.

We have played quite a few nicer golf courses around the country, and this was the first proper negative experience we have encountered. I hope it was a one off as I'd like to visit the...

Review of Club Fitting Experience with Dan

I recently had the pleasure of going through a club fitting session with Dan. From the moment I walked into the fitting studio, Dan’s professionalism and passion for the game were evident.

Dan’s extensive knowledge of golf clubs and swing dynamics was impressive. He took the time to understand my current game, discussing my strengths, weaknesses, and what I was looking to achieve with my new clubs. His ability to analyze my swing with the help of advanced technology made me feel like I was in capable hands.

What stood out most was Dan's personalized approach. Instead of just pushing the latest and most expensive equipment, he focused on what would truly benefit my game. He listened attentively to my feedback during the fitting process, making adjustments based on my performance with various club options. This tailored experience made me feel valued as a client and significantly enhanced my confidence in the decisions we were making together.

The fitting process itself was thorough and enjoyable. Dan provided a variety of club heads and shafts to test, ensuring that I could find the perfect combination. He carefully explained the differences between each option and how they could impact my performance. The use of launch monitors and other technology allowed for real-time data analysis, which was both fascinating and enlightening.

Overall, my club fitting with Dan was an exceptional experience. His expertise, personalized service, and dedication to helping me improve my game made all the difference. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, I highly recommend seeking out Dan for your next club fitting. You won’t be...

Nice place, good facilities, helpful staff. I played the bracken first about 6 weeks ago really good course it was lovely condition, greens were true and a nice pace.....it had character and considering nobody really raves about it much I found myself wanting to play it again a really good course thats a stiff test of golf. Played the Hotchkin today and was really excited to be playing such a prestigious course with a huge reputation for being one of the best courses in the country.......wow ive never been so disappointed with a golf course.....i personally wouldnt put it in the top 10 in the county never mind the country it has no real charm or character its fairly open and it feels like your just knocking around a baron field not a golf course. The rough and bunkers are extreme and the punishment is always worse than the crime after missing a fairway by not much your lucky if you can find your ball nevermind hack it out and I then watched a really good player miss a green by 2 yrds and hit 4 out the bunker because of its severity.......the punishment should be going in the bunker not then it being impossible to get out....it quickly wears thin and to be honest I was happy to finish the round. I think the Hotchkin is hugely overrated ive played much much nicer courses and I think its sister course is a better experience. Dont believe the hype...woodhall golf club and the bracken are great but the Hotchkin was a massive let down for...

Just returned from a two day visit , my 5th trip over a decade of more as one of our favourites. I’m a 4 handicap golfer so don’t mind the tough challenge of the Hotchkin and also like the less difficult bracken which has some excellent holes. Both courses were in good condition despite the dry weather of late. However our experience this left a bitter taste as I injured my wrist half way round on day 1, I was able to finish that round but the wrist swelled up very badly overnight and it was impossible to play the second day. I asked at the pro shop for a refund which was passed up the chain of command ,I was told the operations manager was in a meeting until after our scheduled tee time. So I informed the chaps in the pro shop I wasn’t playing and would walk round with the other 3 golfers and return after the round. I was told no refund would be given , I asked to speak to the operations manager and again no refund of the Green fee that was paid only 24 hours earlier of £70 Very poor show imo , sadly I won’t be returning to a favoured venue

Dreadful experience. If you aren't part of the EG squad you are directed to the barren practice/chipping area to be met with an expansive area but poor experience. The fairways on both course do not seem to be watered anymore so you are left with a desert effect/concrete fairway experience, they are burnt out on both courses and this extends to the tee boxes on the Bracken too. It is not true that this condition of fairway is the same everywhere due to weather, it just feels a case of having given up trying to keep on top of watering or have no provisions to supply water. The greens on the Hotchkin were far from great with the broccoli effect causing bobbling. I expected a premium experience at the home of england golf and the national golf centre, where visitors should be provided with a standout experience. I was shocked at the experience and condition.

Golf course - we played the Hotchkin course and it was in immaculate condition. It was challenging, in terms of length, bunkers (as some very extremely deep) as well as having penal rough! Clubhouse - lovely clubhouse but could l do with an uplift. It needs some TLC but with some investment, it could be absolutely superb. Driving range - it’s about five minutes walk from the shop but it is super. Lots of Toptracer bays and a great Short game area as well. Just what you’d expect from the home of England Golf.
