We have been many times before over the past couple of years and this by far was our worst visit. Menu was limited, advertise that they serve food until 9pm but they stop serving at 7:30! When we ordered our mains we was told we had till 7:45 to order desserts as the kitchen “closed” we was told our food would be no longer than 20 minutes even though it was busy. We rushed our mains and went back to the bar to order desserts at 7:40 (I had to leave while my partner was still eating to go and order). There was person in front of me who took quite a while to order food. However the bar staff saw that I had been stood waiting before 7:45. When I asked to order desserts, which was exactly quarter too she looked at the clock and rolled her eyes and said I will have to ask the kitchen if they mind doing some desserts. She then came back and said no it wasn’t possible even though the kitchen was still making food for other tables. I explained we were told we could order before and it wasn’t my fault, I was held up by the queue and she didn’t care. I also told her that the website says they serve till 9pm (as most places do on a Friday) and she said she had no control over that and they have told them to change it and they don’t. Google also stated they serve till 9 and it was confirmed by the business 12 weeks ago. I can’t understand why on a Friday, in peak season, they would stop serving at 7:30. A table of 10 walked in soon after and was given main menus and although by this time it was not busy anymore they was told there would be over an hours wait on food which didn’t make sense at all. They then decided not to stay so they lost a lot of revenue there.
We were very disappointed as we have to travel over an hour to come here. This is the first time it’s been like this and we can’t see why they are turning customers away as we heard many complaints/ disappointment after the “hour” food wait was announced despite it being very quiet. I doubt we will be returning after...
Read moreWe visited on the evening of 25 Aug 20. Having eaten in the restaurant about 8 months ago, we were looking forward to our meal as we remembered the food being excellent.
Under the 'Eat out to help out' scheme, we decided to visit. Much to our disappointment, the menu on arrival was completely different to the menu listed on the website, with no indication of the change at the time of booking (telephone) or any notes on the website highlighting this fact. The limited choice was understandable, however, due to the current COVID restrictions; but it would have been nice to have been made aware of this fact prior to booking as we would have likely booked elsewhere. Be aware there are only around 5-6 main menu choices and 3 starter options.
Despite the limited menu and reduced occupancy, the food quality was still truly terrible. The chicken burger was flavourless and charcoaled, the steak pie was soggy and the salad was bland, basic and uninspiring. Thankfully, the 50% off through the scheme made this slightly more palatable. However, when the scheme finishes on 31 Aug, this food is not worth the full price, by a long stretch. Drinks were served in plastic glasses, which seems like an unnecessary precaution and added to the cheap feel of the meal.
Clearly short staffed, both in the kitchen and at the bar, the poor bar maid was running around like a headless chicken trying to attend to everyone's needs. The male waiter, after serving our food was very excited to be 'finally leaving for the day' as he 'wasn't even supposed to be in work' and he felt the need to highlight to us.
Thankfully, we didn't use the toilets during our visit, but did notice a couple of PortaLoos outside in the beer garden, which I assume are for customer use.
Overall, COVID restrictions aside, I'm not quite sure what has happened to this place. This was a very disappointing experience and we won't be...
Read moreVery disappointed with our visit today. Started off well, we found a nice clean table outside with a parasol, noticed the really up to date barcode on the table that enables you to order and pay on your phone from the table (great idea), scan the barcode and proceed to the menu to find 75% of the food is sold out at 12.15 when there are about 6 tables occupied , disappointing but never mind we will just have a sandwich each, add to the basket with 2 drinks and "try" to pay over and over and over. Asked the member of staff delivering some food to another table why we couldn't pay and his answer was "well you can order at the bar you know" . We guessed we could order at the bar but had already wasted 10mins scanning and picking from the massively restricted list of choices. Staff didn't really care so decided I would go to the bar and order, stood at the bar and the girl turned her back on me to serve a man that arrived at the bar AFTER me, not happy! Never mind, just order food and drink so the "lad" that decided eventually to take my order seemed to need me to repeat every item 3 or 4 times! I mean how hard is 2xblt and 2xdrinks!!!! After I'd been through the, clearly difficult to understand order numerous times the lad decides to tell me there is a 50min wait for food!!! I said that's no good as our parking ticket will run out by then and I didn't see how it could take 50mins to get 2 sandwiches. So our nice lunch out that had already been demoted to a sandwich was then demoted again to 2 drinks and no food. Just a total waste of time. The staff are so young they just don't care. Now I know they just had the 40s weekend but to run out of change completely is bad management, to run out of the majority of food items is incredibly bad management and then to leave the place staffed with nothing more than kids is incredibly bad management. Just awful visit and won't be...
