A rare Saturday off meant I was lucky enough to have time to explore Beck Isle Museum, Pickering, a museum I've not visited before. What a lovely place! A stunning location, a very reasonable entry fee and a cheerful greeting set me up for the rest of the visit. With heaps of local and social history, Beck Isle is a true treasure trove of artefacts including a chemist's shop, confectioners, a barbers, lots of toys and military items. I was particularly interested in the costumes/clothing, fans, umbrellas and parasols on show. Of course, I'm now getting the age when I actually owned or used some of the items now 'on show' in the glass cases! Your ticket fee entitles you to return visits within the year, so I'm hoping I can return sometime soon. Great for the kids and fantastic for adults. It's a fabulous place so well done to...

A really nice little museum, my son who is 9 years old visited last week, although school holidays it was very quiet which gave you plenty of time to look at things. The man who we bought our tickets from couldn't have been more helpful nice friendly and cheerful, an added bonus is you can visit as many times as you like in the year very good for the price you pay. Not sure if it was just for school holidays but they had an activity room for children my son made a caterpillar out of craft materials such a good idea so children can take something home with them,. Well worth a visit and we will definitely be back. We visited on a Monday so it was market day in pickering an extra added bonus it's a lovely town to look around and a trip to the Beck Isle museum makes it even...

We took my wife's elderly parents here yesterday. What an amazing museum. We've visited Pickering many, many times but did not know about this place. The staff were really welcoming and very very helpful. My mum in law is not too mobile and they took great care to explain the access difficulties (it's a listed building and so there are lots of steps and stairs and no lift). In the end she managed to get around it all. The exhibits are really interesting and the staff are happy to explain everything. This place is a real TARDIS, lots to see. The blacksmith spoke to us about his work and answered all our questions. Highly recommended! BTW go to Cappleman's fish and chips for your lunch while in the area, a 2 minute walk...

This museum was far bigger and the content range and quality better than we ever expected in a twon the size of Pickering. The main them in rural life, but it covers every aspect from prison to pulpit, from cooking to carpentry, from childhood to old age and everything in between. You need two hours to do justice to the range of displays which cover a much larger area than expected.

Lovely museum that gives you a favour of what life was like in rural Pickering! Love the collection of tools craftsmens, farmers, blacksmiths etc used to provide for their community and artefacts that once was part of everyone's daily life. The staff are very friendly. Everything is very well curated and kept. It's a must-visit if you're in Pickering - solo, in pairs or with kids!
