We have always loved this! Even our border collie likes sticking her head out in the breeze while chugging along! Started at the swimming pool and got off at the end of the line where the smallest pub in the world is, and a new crazy golf course! In recent years the line used to go further towards haven but that section has been closed for a while. Although talking to the train officials, plans are in hand to reopen and extend it to havens Thorpe park. Look forward to that.
I still have happy memories of my Mum at the ripe old age of 90 having a ride with us on it and screaming that it was too fast...lol! Unfortunately she has passed away now but will never forget laughing my socks off at my poor mums hair being blown around at an horrendous speed of about 10mph!
Cleethorpes wouldn't be Cleethorpes without this mini railway line! We always wave at the kids (and adults) passing us on the train while we walk the above mentioned border collie (Izzie!) at the side of the track.
Interestingly, the white "signal box" near the end of the disused part of the line isn't actually a signal box as most people think. An elderly gentleman used to sit in the upstairs section, look out towards the sea and paint. Unfortunately he has gone now and so have the wooden stairs that used to lead up to the upper level. Oh, the flowers around the end of the line (where the smallest pub and the crazy golf course is, remember?) are beautiful. Much respect to the lady gardener I was talking to...
Read morePoor customer service at train cafe (near to leisure centre). We had travelled to the Summer steam event and paid for return train tickets on 12th July 2025. My daughter who is aged 3 wanted a lolly. We were going to sit outside in the station to watch the trains (1.50pm). The lady who served us (after waiting patiently in a queue), told us she would “serve the people behind us first who wanted train tickets.” She served them and they left. After she asked what we would like to buy (lolly, latte, and Coca Cola) 2 other people then entered the shop (about 10 minutes after we had waited) and she went out of her way to ask them if they wanted train tickets to which they said yes and that she “wanted to ALSO serve them first.” She then took their order for ice cream, food etc. whilst we stood there after already waiting for 10 minutes. My 3 year old daughter was crying as we walked out without the lolly. Both the other customers were all adults and should have waited their turn. The main fault lied with the lady serving who was frankly very rude to us for no reason. We put the lolly down and walked out of the shop and instead went to Kingsway kiosk who were excellent.
We had travelled from Northumberland to this event and were very shocked at the extremely poor customer service we received. We regularly visit the AlnValley Railway in Alnwick who are excellent.
We won’t be returning to this event or...
Read moreWe enjoyed this! The trains ran to time, every 30 minutes. We did a return journey & got off to spend a short while at far end where there is a pub (live music today, a Saturday in July) & a small cafe & gift shop, There's a fair amount of parking at the far end, & a large EV charging hub so you could start from this end & use the train to get to the promenade. There's a path alongside the railway, looks tarmacked the whole way & good for wheelchairs / pushchairs too - guess you might do a single trip & walk the other way (about 2km). The train has a wheelchair accessible carriage for 1 wheelchair or mobility scooter per trip. We got on without having to wait. Our group, 1 in wheelchair, 2 other adults & a dog fitted in the carriage nicely ..,a staff member was there to put ramp up & down, & safely lock it,...
