I really enjoyed mmy day on the beach. There is a friendly, family run business from where you can hire a hut by the day or by the week. Hire sunbeds, umbrellas, wind breaks or deck chairs for the day. The sea yesterday was warm as it came in over the sand as the tide was coming in, and I actually swam in UK waters for the first time in many years! The sun sets behind the cliffs so you lose the sun at tea time just as the business packs away. No jet skies or motor boats are allowed inside the bay, no dogs are allowed on the beach (but you can walk them on the promanade) and no bbq's are permitted at all. These are Council by-laws not the rules of the family business. Please respect them for the Health & Safety of swimmers & beach users, as the Council no longer set the buoys or police it because of funding cuts. I'm sure both locals and holiday makers can all see the sense of by laws and can self regulate. Again, because of funding cuts, the beach is no longer cleared of sea weed or combed to remove the drifts of pebbles. What you find on your day visit is at the mercy of weather and tides, as is true of all island beaches now. The bins were very full yesterday and soon it is wasp season. Its a good idea to take a carrier bag for removal of your own rubbish and to keep the rubbish off the beach. Seagulls love to pick through it at the end of the day and make an awful mess that someone has to clear up. Hope you enjoy Small Hope as much as I did. I'm...
