The Tintagel Bridge, officially known as the Tintagel Castle Footbridge, is a distinctive structure located in Tintagel, Cornwall, United Kingdom. It spans a 190-foot gorge, connecting the mainland to the historic Tintagel Island where Tintagel Castle is situated.

Design and Construction: The bridge is a modern pedestrian suspension bridge, designed by Ney & Partners Civil Engineers and William Matthews Associates. It was constructed as part of a larger English Heritage project to improve access to Tintagel Castle.

Materials: The bridge is primarily made of steel, with a slender and elegant design that complements the rugged coastal landscape. The choice of materials aims to provide durability in the face of the challenging coastal environment.

Features: The bridge features two main cantilevers that extend from each side of the gorge, meeting at a central point. The design allows visitors to experience breathtaking views of the coastline while crossing.

Inspiration from Legend: Tintagel Castle is often associated with the Arthurian legend, and the design of the bridge seeks to evoke a sense of myth and history. The bridge's construction aimed to minimize its impact on the landscape and preserve the site's natural beauty.

Opening: The Tintagel Bridge was officially opened to the public in August 2019. Its inauguration marked a significant development in enhancing the visitor experience to Tintagel Castle, making it more accessible to tourists.

Visitor Experience: The bridge provides a unique and memorable experience for visitors, offering panoramic views of the dramatic coastline and enhancing the overall connection between the mainland and the historic island.

The Tintagel Bridge not only serves a practical purpose in facilitating access but also contributes to the cultural and historical significance of the Tintagel Castle site, adding a modern architectural element to the rich tapestry of its...

Whilst visiting friends in Plymouth, we decided to have a day trip to Tintagel and Tintagel Castle. I had been wanting to visit this area for some time, and despite researching beforehand, nothing could have prepared me for this place. . It's such an interesting and varied walk which includes steep inclines, coastline, rugged terrain, and of course; the bridge. . The Tintagel Castle Bridge might be considered expensive on the face of things (£18 for a walk-up adult ticket), but don't let this put you off. The bridge is a spectacle on its own, but also gives you direct access to the ruins of the Great Hall and the Gallos Statue. . On crossing the bridge, to your right, you will experience 'the door', which leads down the cliff and connects you to the coastline and Merlins Cave. This door (see photo) has to be one of the most photographed and shared pictures in Cornwall. . The walk loops round appropriately so you can take in the stunning rugged coastline from all angles and leads you back to the village where you can enjoy a range of food options that would suit all tastes. . In summary, this is a must see place steeped in history and character. For me, Tintagel is a great example of the best of...

Absolutely brilliant! Our family trip to Tintagel Castle on April 21st from our holiday in Bude was the highlight of our Cornwall adventure. The new bridge is an absolute triumph of engineering and imagination. It felt truly special walking across to the island, imagining the legends and history come to life. Even with some construction workers on site (looked like they were making it even better!), the experience wasn't diminished at all. In fact, it was interesting to see the work being done to preserve this incredible place. The kids absolutely loved exploring the island, running up and down the paths with boundless energy. The views were simply breathtaking – the rugged coastline, the crashing waves, and the castle ruins themselves created a truly magical atmosphere. Tintagel Castle is a must-see. The new bridge makes it so much more accessible and adds to the overall wonder of the location. Five stars...
