This little pub, situated in the older part of Exeter is a real treasure with a joyous atmosphere. As soon as we entered we were engulfed by the warm and friendly vibe, the friendly staff and the relaxed and informal ambience of a busy independent pub. Although busy, we felt that the service we received was attentive throughout with just enough time between courses to allow room for a bit more. The food is clearly home cooked to order and utterly delicious, with regular changes to accommodate what is available and in season. There were some really unusual choices to try as well as some regulars, slow cooked beef cheeks and fish pie. While this is not an upmarket dining experience, the presentation and deliciousness of the food, the warmth of the environment and the friendliness of the staff more than make up for this. It is informal dining with a touch of class, thanks to the posh nosh on your plate. I really appreciated that the landlord came over during the course of our meal to ask if everything was to our liking and if there was anything else we needed. This pub is a gem, like a little local in the centre of Exeter. We loved everything about it and will definitely be back; for more of the friendly welcoming space and their...

I always think it's a good sign if a place has a small menu. The Fat Pig has 4-5 main dishes, which they do extremely well. I've heard a lot of compliments about the pub over the past 4 years and have been meaning to check it out for a while. Despite the word-of-mouth buzz, it still exceeded my expectations. The front bar was snug and busy, full of life. The restaurant area at the back had a lovely atmosphere, and I was tempted by much of the menu. The focaccia starter tasted like a mild American cornbread and had a hint of cumin. It was a welcome variation, and a good portion size for two. I enjoyed the crispy beef, but the star of the show for me was the gorgonzola tagliatelle. The balsamic glaze was the perfect touch, absolutely beautiful. While the dishes were a touch on the expensive side, I thought they were worth it. I would recommend this...

Staying over wanted somewhere close to the holiday inn express on Tudor Street. Wasn't sure they rake walk in but we'd chance it. Looked a mix of people having drink and ff. They accommodated us and ordered what we thought would bec3 courses but we were bested by the mains. The starters were lovely halloumi fries been light rather then greasy like some. Soup delicious and of course homemade. Both mains came with mash , one been the sasuage and mash the other been the vegetable pie a very big pie it was noted. Sausages 3 big juicy sasuages with red wine gravy whilst the pie had mushroom gravy, a salty offset to cream mash. Enjoyed the atmosphere but the staff were lovely behind the bar makes a visit and note to remember for returning. Next time we visit Exeter...

Tens all round! Despite the signage suggesting something different about The Fat Pig, the entrance is through a bright yellow door straight off the street and suddenly you are immersed in an excitable, bubbly atmosphere in the main bar area. I can get loud, but isn't this a familiar trait of the best pubs. Beyond the bar area, there's a newer section with more tables for dining/drinking. There's even a beer shelf outside on the narrow link to Fore Street. The food's good too. Parking adjacent in a Ringo carpark. Definitely recommend. We went on a Friday night - it's open on other nights too!!
