York Designer Outlet is just a wonderful shopping experience! There are a great variety of stores with fantastic choice & reasonable prices. This shopping mall has a very relaxed atmosphere as you wonder through & with the festive season in full swing the Christmas decorations & lights are just beautiful....all the stores are located on the ground floor. There are small Little Tikes push-a-long cars for toddlers to use to make there shopping trip even more fun! On the 1st floor are comfortable/trendy food areas. The eateries include, McDonald's, Seafood, Pizza Hut, Pizza Outlet, Spud-U-Like, Wagamammas, Ed's Diner & a few more....
There are various photo opportunities you can use throughout the mall for Christmas photo's! Directly outside the mall is a good sized ice-rink where you can skate around a beautifully lit Christmas tree & available are medium sized penguins which are support aids for the less confident skater! A Christmas Chalet is to the side of the ice-rink offering hot & cold beverages in a very cosy atmosphere.
Just past the ice-rink is a Christmas Fun Fair which has extremely pretty rides for children up to the age of 12 years old. This fair is open from 3pm Monday to Friday & opens all day Saturday to Sunday....even if you are not using the fair it is just so nice to walk around!
Overall, York Designer Outlet is probably my favourite shopping mall to visit as you feel like you are having a real treat either shopping for yourself or for others as the staff make you feel welcome & as I said before, the atmosphere is...
Read moreI thought the shopping centre was a bit sterile. It was black Friday weekend and we foolishly decided to park up and get the park-and-ride bus which was an hour late into York due to the roundabout being over-congested. A rather foolish bit of town planning one roundabout that funnels three 'A' roads off into a single-track lane to the park and ride Designer Outle. As for the shopping centre, lots of shops are ready to take all our hard-earned money. Brands and more brands. The immediate external areas are well lit up but I thought the car park could have better illuminance. There's ample interest for children in the areas outside of the shopping centre and plenty of eating areas and vendors selling yummy things. If you are into buying branded products at not-so-cheap prices then this is the place for you. And with York Centre, just a 5-minute bus ride away you get the best of worlds. kudos to the bus drivers who drove us through heavy traffic skillfully and professionally despite the madness of pre-Xmas shoppers and poor visibility. If you have time visit York Xmas Market. I'm not great with crowds but I had a fabulous time ☺️. I was amazed at how many stalls were open selling jewellery clothes confectionery mulled wines mixed with spirits and so much more. The atmosphere was effervescent and I couldn't help but notice how many families had come out. Families with Young children, babies and dogs so many people brought their dogs 🐕 out. And to my surprise, the dogs appeared to be having fun weaving in and out of the crowds. I had a...
Read moreBeing local to the area I visit the outlet quite frequently and have generally always had a great experience. There's absolutely tons of parking and it's also great if you'd rather park and ride into the centre of York, rather than drive.
There are loads of shops that appeal to different demographics within the outlet, with the occasional pop up shop. Lots of food outlets, though seating space can be limited within the food court, particularly on busier days.
In terms of accessibility, all shops are on the ground floor and there's accessible parking from both north and south entrances. However, it would be nice to see more accessible spaces being added towards the side closest to Next and Fossil etc. There are 2 lifts, one from the north side by Whittard's and the other south side by BOSS that go up to the food court, however, dependent on how busy it is, there can be a wait.
Whilst I understand that companies want to get in as much stock as possible, there are some shops that aren't suitable or accessible for wheelchair users - the spaces and layouts haven't been thought out very well and certainly don't accommodate wheelchairs.
It would be really nice to see adaptations made to make the outlet a more accessible and inclusive place i.e. having more than one changing places facility and perhaps putting together an accessibility guide...
